Pre-SATs breakfast : McDonalds. Discuss.

This could possibly just be me BU, year 6 children going for a pre-SATs breakfast at McDonalds - and rewarded with cakes and chocolate bars in the run up to SATs. chatted with friend who is not happy about this, and thought she might complain to the head. my thoughts are no, this is not brain food, maybe ask parents to make sure the kids have a good breakfast, but maccyD's with all that sugar and additives, surely cannot be right?

Like I said, might just be me - would NOT be happy. Might call Jamie Oliver!

My main objection is making a big deal out of the tests by giving rewards like this. On the other hand, I'm happy when kids get any breakfast as I see a lot of kids coming into the (nice middle class) school I work in with nothing in their tummies in the morning.

I'm surprised so many people have been aggressive with you about this, I agree with you really. If they wanted everyone to have breakfast, they could have provided fruit/cereal/toast at school rather than taking them to McDonalds

I teach Maths to BESD children. Before any morning GCSE, I have a Maths GCSE breakfast club in the school canteen because:

Many of their families are pretty dysfunctional, so they are likely to arrive at school hungry and under-prepared for 1.5 hours of fully focussed concentration on algebra...

Many of them are more frightened of success than of failure: we need to get them as relaxed as poss before they start the paper.

The informal atmosphere allows me to kick-start their MATHS brains, such as by making them work out their 4.7 times table before they can have a 2nd bacon butty.

They then often get a trip to MaccyD as a reward for taking the exam seriously, if only to make sure they turn up for Paper 2!

If having Breakfast Club at the Golden Arches is what you need to get the kids motivated to do their best, then go for it!! In the long term, however, do try to find a way to motivate them that does not require such a coarse incentive..

Does Paul Dacre really have a micro penis? Has a mumsnetter got first hand experience of this?

Discuss.

Barelin I wish all schools did that. Imo it would be better to arrive at school early, have a good brekkie and take a deep breath. I used to have breakfast in the student union at uni on the mornings of my finals (bacon roll and sweet coffee btw). It made me feel more ready.

Is there really a lot of sugar in a McDonald's breakfast? I guess in the Orange juice but a lot of kids will have that at home anyway.

Biased because I LOVE an egg mcmuffin

Gah people are so judgy, we leave the house for school run at 7 and sometimes one or two of the dcs may not have had b/f due to being too tired on waking so occasionally (every few weeks) we have a mc ds b/f as a treat, the amount of stares and judgy looks I get from taking dcs in there at 8.20 am is astonishing, literally other adults in there give you the evils as if to say how dare you give your dcs mc ds bf! I glare back wanting to ask if they've been up since 5.30 and out on the school run since 7!

Not the best thing to have for breakfast every day, I doubt because of sugars, more so because of the salt content of mc ds food but once in a while/whilst doing exams I can't see the problem, we love a sausage and egg mc muffin/bacon roll 😝

Very interesting, PaulDacresMicroPenis.

I find the bread very sweet in McDonalds. According to their website, they use no more than 5% sugar in their bread.
