Could you please recommend me a baby carrier?

Hi all,

I’m looking for baby carrier recommendations.

I’d ideally like something which is suitable from newborn and will see me through for at least 18 months-2 years. It would be great to have something which can be worn both day to day around the house as well as out and about. Good back support is a must!

Thank you xx

I love the Tula explore. Used it with our first and I'll be using it for our second due in a few weeks.

Do you have a local sling library? you can go along and try them out to get the best fit for you and see which one suits you best.

I loved the ergo omni 360. So comfortable. Probably wouldn’t take you to 18m but you’d be hard pushed to find one that does IMO.

@HaggisWurst I’ve never heard of a sling library! Thanks for this tip

I used the Ergobaby Omni 360. I got it when she was about 4 months so I didn’t use it from birth but I think you can get an insert so you can use it from birth. Very comfortable, feel well supported in it. DD loves being in it. You can front and back carry, both forward and orient facing on the front. Would recommend!

I love the Tula as well. We have had a Free to Grow.

That’s two votes for the Ergo Omni 360 - I’ll have a look, thank you

A third vote for the Ergobaby Omni

I would really recommend getting a stretchy wrap type carrier for a newborn, and then a separate structured carrier for approx 5 months to 2 years.

The stretchy ones are really comfy, good support and babies just love them. They're pretty cheap, mine was about £10 I think.

The structured carriers are more expensive, they can be used from birth but are sometimes then limited at the upper age range.

Second the sling library recommendation if there's one near you. Great to be able to try options

Fingers crossed you have a sling library nearby!

I'll add that the tula explore was good for my back as it had more stability (I used en ergo embrace at the beginning but as DS got bigger, it began hurting my back whereas the tula had straps like a rucksack so offered more support)

Another vote for Tula Explore!

Tula Explore and a stretchy wrap.

Do NOT get the Infantino Flip 4 in 1.

We have a sling for newborn stage and a Tula. Loved the Tula for out and about. Superb back support and our lil boy loves it even now aged 2 and a big boy!!

A fabric tie up one is best for back support in my experience. Had a standard clip up one with my first two and bought a fabric one for my third. The difference was incredible.
also found that the fabric ones were easier as I could put it one before I went out, use the pram but then put the baby in it when
they became unsettled hassle free as it was ready to go.

Definitely Ergobaby Omni 360. I had about 4 and this is by far the best. Still use it now with 2 year old.. well husband does as she’s too heavy for me now.

For newborn and around the house I would say get a soft material wrap one. They hold newborns better, but make sure you follow tutorial online. They are so easy once you get the hang of it. I found all hard/strap carriers uncomfortable with a newborn but great from 2/3 months onwards. May just be me though

Stretchy wrap from newborn to pop them in and out to feed and change, do housework, go to the loo etc. Also holds them in so well they're so cosy. So supportive and soft and comfortable. Would take mine on the swings in it. Regular tula for when they're bigger as they're supportive and easy to wear/remove, chuck in a bag, can be worn with a backpack for your changing gear, also can be used for a back carry.
But recommend a sling library too as some just won't be right for your body eg there were some that had buckles that dug into my ribs.
I realise you're after one that does it all but the needs are different enough for me to think that two different are best.

Just got a Hana baby stretchy wrap off eBay for £5 - will then probably get a connecta or integra once they are too big for the stretchy. I had a close caboo and ergo baby omni with my first! Sling library is worth finding then you can try some out.

I had a stretchy wrap from newborn and added a structured one from about 8 weeks. We had the Beko Gemini and it was amazing. Used it for 2 DC from about 2 months to 3.5 years. Worth every penny.

Other babies would have been fine in it even earlier, I just had smallish ones (<7lb)

I bought a close caboo and a baby Bjorn mini on eBay for a tenner each - DS hated the sling and likes the mini, so money well spent to try both IMO. Recommend sling library as PP suggested, otherwise eBay is your friend!

Love our Tula Explore 😍😍 Tula is now owned by Ergobaby and pretty sure the explore is basically the same as the ergo 360. So essentially this thread is unanimous 😄

I used Tula Standard with my first 2 kids (can’t be outward facing and need an insert for newborn), stretchy wrap and ring sling but never got on with them perfectly whereas the Tula Explore is 👌👌👌

Oh I also bought a caboo after people raved about it but to me it just seemed like a more faffy stretchy wrap. It’s so personal you really need to try lots to see which is best for you!

I used a stretchy wrap when DC were newborn for the first few months and then used the ergobaby omni 360. I tried it out first at my local sling library and it worked best for us (I am 4’ 10 and DH is 5’10) and had very good back support. We managed to use until DC1 was two and a bit and I’m still using with DC2 who is 21 months now. DC can go on front both parent facing and forward facing and can go on the back as well, which I prefer as they get heavier and we do longer walks.
Definitely recommend seeing if you have a sling library as they can advise and also demonstrate the soft wraps so you can try it with your DC before buying anything.

Have a look on www.slingpages.co.uk for your nearest sling library and definitely go before baby arrives as it's so much easier to learn without a needy newborn!
