What can I do to get a bit fitter at 25 weeks pregnant

I piled on 5 stone in my last pregnancy going from 10 stone to 15. I lost 4 in the 18 months between pregnancies and now my weight feels like its going on fast again. I had borderline GD with my first and have tested negative so far but they'll test again at 28 weeks. I am not exercising apart from running after DS but would like to start, I have SPD and think controlling my weight might stop this getting worse. I also think the weight goes on because I control my weight normally by dieting (low carb/latest fad) every few months if it creeps out of my comfort zone and I obviously don't want to do that pregnant. Does anyone have any advice? I do avoid junk mostly but have trouble with portion control and seem to be constantly hungry. Maybe more protein?

It's a bit of aerobics but your sitting on a giant ball the whole of the cardio bit and doing things with your arms and legs to work up a sweat. Then we did squats using the ball as back support against a wall, then some weights, stability stuff, stretches and a cool down. I managed it comfortably and am way out of shape!

The intro class is free so might be worth checking it out to see if it's for you.

Maternally fit - what sort of exercise class is it? I'm not keen on aerobics!

I've got the Pregnancy Pilates DVD 10 minute solution - I can't do some exercises because of sore pelvis (I get a mild SPD) but most I can do and really like it. You can feel it the next day so definitely doing something!

I put on a lot of weight in previous 2 pregnancies so 3rd time round I'm being really strict and it's absolutely no treats - no chocolate, biscuits, curries, crisps - and limiting fruit as well to avoid fructose. I've still put on 20 pounds already and am 24 weeks and getting Shock looks when I tell them I'm due 1st December...! I find pregnancy and keeping fit hard - when I'm not pregnant I can control my weight so find being pregnant tough.

Swimming Ok if I avoid breast stroke. Fit flops good if you're walking so you've got extra cushioning and your pelvis won't feel stiff and suffer the next day.

Walk, walk, walk...as much time as you can afford. Swimming and recumbent bike are brilliant too (three DCs). Good Luck Smile.

It's called maternally fit. They've got a website. The women that run it are great.

Babygirlpw Would you mind telling me where your class is? I live in South East London and can't find anything.

I too put on 2.5 stone with each of my pgcies.

This time (dc4), we have a dog. He's still a puppy but I walk him for at least 30-40 mins every day.

I cannot believe the difference it has made. Except of course having 3 other dcs to keep me on my toes might also well be a factor!

Have you done a local search. I'm in South London and have found an excellent antenatal class. It involves the gym balls and weights. Lots of different exercises working legs, bums, arms etc. but I must admit its the only one I could find near me.

Thanks, I can't swim Blush but my physio said even moving in water is good for SPD so will start taking DS to splash about.
