Pregnancy

Reasonably sure this is bollocks

I accidentally went to a talk on pelvic floors the other day (what life? where?) and the MW doing the talk said we shouldn't be weeing more than once a night, and that we should try and hold onto the wee and not go as soon as we feel the need, as it trains the bladder to be lazy.

Okay, this is a load, isn't it? I mean, this is my second child, so I'm reasonably sure that ridiculous numbers of loo trips are normal. It's one of those pregnancy clichés.

Can't you get a bladder infection from holding wee in for too long, anyway?

I have my twins' heads doing a rugby scrum on my bladder at the moment. It's every 90 minutes during the night. I have seriously considered getting a chamber pot! Because all that happens is you wake up, think 'maybe I can hold it in', 20 minutes pass, by that stage you're wide awake, have to go, then can't get back to sleep...

Honestly, some of these classes are such utter tosh.

This site cheers me up Grin

Same here - DS sat on my bladder for a good few months, this one is higher. Makes me wonder if there's anything in the boys-sit-lower theory.

Sorry, once I read about the erect penis wiggling I couldn't think of anything to add...

Wee once a night!

I have to go every 2 hours :)

Mine's the same: DS sat on my bladder for 39 weeks and never ever shifted at all, not even in the second trimester, the little horror; DC2 has been much more obliging. I wondered if it was because my stomach muscles were slacker so the baby has been able to move up more easily and get off my poor bladder.

But I drank MUCH more than normal so of course I was going to pee more. Also think it depends on the pregnancy because I made fewer trips with DC2 than DC1 (so I think that defies the theory doesn't it as bladder clearly still working - although pelvic floor now shot after birth).

100% utter bollocks.

We always taught pelvic floors in 3 steps as: Imagine you are holding in a wee, holding in a tampon, holding in wind.

And get DP to join in by making his erect penis wiggle :o and Blush sorry if TMI!

Nice shortcut to a UTI!! Definitely best ignored.

Apparently another very good way of strengthening your pelvic floor is to practice squatting.
Very informative article about it here

I'm a midwife and yes that is bollocks!

I love being right. Grin

Okay, off for a wee, then, feeling vindicated.

As if there wasn't enough to feel guilty about in pregnancy, without worrying about pissing too much or having an idle, good for nothing slack bladder. Humph.

That's gotta be bollocks! I seemed to pass the most wee during the night, I wasn't waking up to go for a trickle so there's no way I coulda held it in or I would have exploded.

I've heard that one but at a post natal class with a natal physio .... no way during pregnancy, at times I could have slept in the bathroom

I am reasonably sure it is bollocks too Smile

go when you feel the need, make sure to empty the bladder properly, rocking back and forwards a bit might help, make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day....

pelvic floor exercises are more helpful than trying to hold onto a wee when you are bursting...which is uncomfortable and will stop you sleeping well too

You're right, you'll more likely have cystitis than a stronger pelvic floor from holding on too long.

Better to pee when you need and do kegal exercises to strengthen things.
