Okay a bit of fun

I was speaking with some friends and work colleagues and somebody mentioned that I was a yummy mummy in training (I have the mothercare t-shirt to prove it). I Laughed as you do and changed the subject (easier said then done).

I like looking nice for DP and the office and a new hair cut and french manicure and beautiful shoes, but isn't that what a woman does

The fun bit what is a yummy mummy and do you want to be one?

xx

Wow! Some, er, interesting comments! I hope these dc's won't be inheriting this negativity and prejudice. Hmm

OP, if you want to keep yourself well groomed then go for it. I was never glamorous before having dd but there haven't been many occasions where I haven't found time to put make up on, and I can always find time to shower!! FWIW, my DD hardly slept when she was a newborn and at 15 months is still waking several times a night, and I've been working PT and studying since she was born, so it's not that I have had it particularly easy.

Good luck with your pregnancy and motherhood. Xmas Smile

The bitchy comments have made me sooooo angry Angry! So much so that it has brought me out of lurking!! OP don't justify your opinions to the small minded!! I would far rather be a yummy mummy than a slummy mummy, but hey ho... Each to their own!

Completely agree, bonbon. I'm the least manicured person there is, but find the judgment on here really disheartening.

I think OP has taken it with very good grace.

Goodness, after reading this for a second time i really feel badly for the poor OP. Title does say that this is meant to be a bit of fun, and some on here have been downright mean! Are we back at school? Isn't this supposed to be a forum where actual opinions are voiced rather than two sentences of bitchiness?

hahaha well i have 3 dc and working on 4th and i wear make up and heels and have had my nails done on occasion and a few facials, i also go to the hair dressers every 3 months. sometimes i wear make up everyday and sometimes i wont wear it for a week. sometimes i straighten my hair everyday and sometimes its whacked up in a pony tail.
it depends on whether i prioritise it that day or not, sometimes it feels very important and sometimes it doesnt.
i dont tend to struggle to bathe though Grin thats a new one on me. i find it weird that someone wanting to take care of their appearance, however that maybe is considered unpleasant some how.
i also read extensively and study i dont find the time i prioritise for myself to detract from that but then i also am not sure how i would feel if some one called me a yummy mummy as i am not really sure what it means. i know its suppose to be a compliment but as we can see here it can have very different meanings.

deemented I am not a talon girl just a simple Mani and Pedi. I know that baby will be a lot harder then people make it see.

tak1ngchances I agree with the French Mani thing.

TooImmatureTuartleDove My friend told me the heels/pram thing.

Flisspaps I hold my hands up I am a first timer. Xmas Smile Celebs have a lot answer for. Xmas Grin

When I'm a mummy I'll have a baby, and a loving DH. Sounds pretty yummy to me!

My definition of a yummy mummy is probably different to the generic, but the OP did ask us what we thought it would be. So there's mine added to the list!

I reckon a happy mummy is a yummy mummy - yumminess shines through! I've seen women look utterly exhausted, with messy hair, tracksuit trousers, huge bags under their eyes etc - but they look so utterly yummy because they're clearly in love with their little arrival.

Or am I completely out of touch?

Happy eve eve to all!!

I get the impression that most (not all) of those talking about being yummy mummies are those who haven't actually experienced the joys of their own newborn yet Smile

I mean this kindly - while it's nice to have expectations of what life will be like, chances are it won't be like that. Don't set your expectations too high and accept if you can manage as much as a shower and quick hair brush then thats BRILLIANT particularly in the early days, anything more should be a bonus. The pressure on women to look like supermodels even with a baby is ridiculous, don't add to it by putting pressure on yourselves. It is OK to be a 'slummy mummy' if not pressuring yourself keeps you sane.

Grin at tak1ngchances. French manicures are vile.

Wearing high heels while pushing the pram will mean better balance - wtf?

My post-birth goal is to sleep as often as I possibly can - makeup, haircuts, housework etc will all have to go to the wall for a while.

Have I wandered into a parallel universe where french manicures are actually considered desirable/attractive?

Yummy mummy??? Hahahahahahahaaaaaaa

I'm much more of a scummy mummy. I'm pregnant with DC5 and i have a 12 year old DSS. I do not have the time - or the money - to go to the hairdressers or have my nails done.

And even if i did, why?? How the feck do you wipe your arse with those long talons? And most days my hair gets pulled back into a ponytail as it's much easiier to manage.

Don't get me wrong, i'm always clean and tidy, but having my hair and nails done so people can call me a yummy mummy is wayyyyy own my list of priorities.

Hi ladies.

It is very very interesting to hear peoples different point of view on things. If I can remain on some kind of sane level then that would be fab. Although I do look at all my beautiful pre pregnancy clothes and really want to be able to wear them again in the Spring/Summer.

suzikettles there is far to much pressure to be a certain way this day in age it has to be said. Thank you celebs to ping into their teeny tiny sexy underwear hours after giving birth and are enjoying a bit of rumpy pumpy within moments. [fwink}

xmasmummytobe your DH sounds lovely my DP tells me I look lovely pregnant even when I do look like a small family car. I can't wait to be able to rest thing on our DS, he rests on mummy's bladder often enough. Xmas Smile

justhayley wearing heels whilst pushing the pram will mean better balance and a Monroe wriggle to boot (MMM boots, soft leather boots) Xmas Wink

ScrummyYummyMummy wow hard working does not even describe your life, I am expecting the first few weeks to be hard (thank goodness for paternity leave) although if baby could read the Contented Baby and follow it to the letter then I would be greatfull (perhaps that's what we can read to DS whilst in his cosy bump)Xmas Smile

mumsrthebest there is nothing wrong with old fashioned values as long as there is equality. Xmas Wink although there will only be true equality when men can give birth.

AsinineLadiesDancing I think all Mummies to be have delicious Daddies of their very own.

HidingInTheUndergrowth LOL just remember not to pass out wearing heels whilst pushing the pram. Xmas Smile

bonbonpixie oh crisps. I agree I do like to feel nice about myself and confidant mummies & Daddies, have to equal confidant children)

mumsrthebest I agree it makes you feel so much better when you feel good about yourself, and being that I am the size of a small family car.

Flisspaps thanks I will make a note of that so that I can make sure I have a safe place to hide. My Dp has the office at the top of the house. LOL.

TheCrunchUnderfoot, Heels yummy, although I can't walk in heels at the moment LOL. Fingers crossed once baby is born they can come out of hiding.

HotPinkGingham, I love dry shampoo it is a small miracle in a can. Oh I wonder if I can find staff LOL perhaps when I am asked what I want for Christmas next year staff could well be top of the list. LOL. Although a day at the spa would also be good.

claireinmodena, I couldn't agree more nobody should be made to feel bad about how they look. The most important person is the baby.

BroomBuBuBum I agree with that although I need need need my roots doing and a day at the spa from time to time.

saltyair they have special shoes for curly feet in Turkey LOL. I think the media has a lot to answer for.

MrsHuxtable how can you not like LOL.

Anyway it is interesting to see different people's view on things.

xx
