I was utterly amazed to read how this man has got away with such disturbing behaviour. Unbelievable.

Apparently the judge found the images so disgusting he couldn't bring himself to deliver justice describe them. Wtf? Really? Why?

However, I've discovered there is a petition going around requesting a review of this sentence.]]

Are MNHQ deleting messages that mention his father's surname?

Using his mothers maiden name to protect his father would not be accepted by you or I. I cannot get my head around this, why do these so called elite perverts keep getting away with such heinous crimes?

We do appear to be deleting it, yes. None of the major news sources are covering any possible connection there yet, we'll play it by ear but for now best not to use it if possible?

Great use of the passive voice there YetAnotherHelen

I suppose that in the future he'll go back to using his fathers name which is why it's being expunged as much as possible.

So this Eton lowlife is the only teenage pedophile in the UK that can be fixed by therapy. The possibility of prison would damage the poor little sweetheart and make him into an even worse pedophile than he already is money and power will most likely do that. For all the rest it's off to prison you go. That smacks of class inequality so I signed.

Well that is patently untrue, because I posted a link a few posts above yours which includes a quote from the judge who said he spared him a jail sentence because he was making progress with a therapist.

This 'class war' shoe horning is baffling. There have been a load of links to similar sentences, and those are the ones that have been reported. There will be many more that haven't come to the attention of the press.

So by all means, object to sentencing guidelines and campaign for longer and harsher punishments. But pretending this is a case of favouritism or privilege, in the face of obvious evidence to the contrary, just makes people look silly

Is it just me, or are there no passives in YetAnotherHelen's message?

'They do appear to be deleting it'?

You know exactly what you're doing.

And so what if 'none of the major news sources are covering any possible connection'?

Honestly, this is pathetic.

Perhaps they don't want to piss off a top lawyer and end up on libel charges

^ that is likely and understandable surely.

So are you saying that the courts allow anybody who asks to be tried under a false name? chicagomd
It's not something I've ever heard of before this case.

If you havent already please sign and share this petition on your facebook page, both CPS and the Attorney General have been notified of the disgust of 1000s of people for this lenient sentence, also no mention of the grooming of children to undress before the camera, or no mention if they have even tried to find the baby who was being raped for this man's and others pleasure! www.change.org/p/attorney-general-uk-review-sentence-of-eton-student-andrew-picard-who-shared-photos-of-child-of-2-being-raped?recruiter=16069941&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink

Evidence has been provided further down the thread that not all sentences are equal.

So this sadistic toad - like all of his ilk regardless of income or status - needs to face a proper punishment.

Anyone can change their name at any time, the courts can't stop them from doing so. It's extremely easy to do, any of us could do it tomorrow.

The guardian has used his real name now. Since when is it defamatory to the father to use the actual family name of the son reporting fact and opinion? Total rubbish.

SueLawley, I think that article lost me at the point where it claimed that Brittan faked his own death.

I'm not signing the petition because it's pointless. It appears that the Attorney General has no power in law to refer the sentence for review, and a petition won't change that. In any event, the day we allow sentences to be decided by public opinion whipped up by the media is the day we start descending a very slippery slope.

I would however like to make it clear that none of that means I think this sentence is fine. The point is that it's entirely in line with what the sentencing guidelines require, and that means that everyone attributing the sentence to privilege is on the wrong track. What needs to happen is that the range of sentences available under the relevant statute needs to be revised, which is a matter for Parliament. It would be much more sensible to have a petition directed at achieving that, rather than focussing it all on one high profile case whilst ignoring similar sentences passed in other similar cases.
