Highchairs

I am looking for some advice re. highchairs.
I am absolutely lost picking one - there is so much choice.
I need it to fold away easily and have a price range of about £50 at the most.
I was looking after the Mamma and Papas 'Pesto' highchair.
Any advice is appreciated.

Another fan of the antilop, my DD sat so well in it when smaller, used a padded insert until she got a bit bigger. I found that she slouched in other high chairs. The tray fits in the dishwasher too

Honestly, we were given one and bought two others (one posh John Lewis job, one travel system unfolding thing). DD couldn't sit comfortably in any of them. We ended up Ebaying them all in favour of the Ikea £7 job after noticing lots of restaurants had them and they were the comfiest for her.

Also the seat / tray can go in the dishwasher. The legs can be taken off and it can be packed when we visit people who don't have kids. And it's £7! Win!

We have the brother max scoop which is great and looks fab but the ikea antilop is just as good and sooo much cheaper!

had the antilop, was a nightmare for the kids climbing out. i ditched the high chair at 12-16minths with them both and bought the ikea chairs that are taller so they just sit at the table, far less drama.
if i could do it again, and afford it, i'd get the tripp trapp.
my mum had a padded folding number and cleaning it was awful, kids are so unbelievably gross it's unreal! which is why i got the antilop. ikea also do a folding one, no tray, that we had at my ILs which goes up to the table but i wouldn't recommend it.

Another vote for Tripp Trapp style one here. And against the bloody IKEA antilop which is awful in every way.

We have the joie mimzy snacker like a few other PPs. I love it, easy to fold away with one hand and seat is easy to clean. Straps get a but grubby but I think the us probably universal. The antilop is OK, as people have said you see them a lot in restaurants so we've used them out and about. Would take up too much room when not it use for me. I like that I can fold mine away. DD starting sitting at the table with us from about 18m so it only got used for about a year. I think £50 is about as far as I'd want to stretch!

Stokke tripp trapp (or similar cheaper brand) It fits at the table like a chair, looks nice, and ours lasted until dd was 6 and tall enough to sit on an ordinary chair, then we sold it on as there is a good second hand market.

the pesto is a pain to clean - food gets everywhere with babies, in to all the nooks and cranies, I got rid of it as I was spending more time cleaning it than preparing the food!

I have a tripp trapp and love it, bought second hand but soooo easy to clean and really small so the fact it doesn't fold up isn't an issue

Really don't like the ikea one bulky legs and doesn't fold and looks uncomfortable.
I like the babydan one. Or Tripp trap if you can afford it.

Just put our fancy second hand highchair out in the garage to dig out our old and trusted Ikea Antilop one. So much easier to clean and son seems to prefer the angle to sit at. So cheap and easy to clean, no nooks and crannies for food to get stuck!

Tripp trapp - get a second hand one. Bloody brilliant.

The IKEA one is ok but the tray is a pain to get off and I second the trip hazard thing - it's like it's sticking it's leg out to catch you.

Another vote for Baby Bjorn. Folds really well, no fiddly straps, easy to clean, I love it. They are crazy expensive though, but you might find one second hand.

The ikea antilop is pretty good otherwise though, and much cheaper.

Ikea all the way, just drag it outside and hose it down.

My four year old still likes to use it at the kitchen island (without the tray) as it's the right height and she can sit with the adults and chat when we have friends over for informal food and drinks. Better than her climbing on a barstool type chair. My three year old is a bit chubby so we have to be careful with her legs getting stuck but she still uses hers too.

£20 for 7 years combined use, total bargain.

We have had a few highchairs as I had four due to family visiting with multiple young children. My fav was one by Peg Perego which was so easy to clean, folded nicely and no one tripped over the legs. I don't mind having the fabric liner. I never use it and clean it by hosing it down in the bathtub/shower.

The ikea one is awful. PIL got one for us visiting and everyone has tripped over it. I became slightly deranged after a week of staying with them as someone would trip over the highchair with the baby in it and I would hurl myself across the room to catch the baby. After a week of this I went out and spent about GBP150 on a bloody highchair (Tripp Trap thing with all the accessories) as my PIL denied all knowledge of there being a 2nd hand shop for baby things in the whole of Denmark. I didn't care what the cost was. I wanted my child to be safe. That chair is now being used by baby number 3 and will be used for years to come.

We have one that clips on to the table so doesn't have any legs or tray. It's good because it really does fold flat and slip into a tiny gap for storage, and goes in the washing machine. It also fits in the suitcase when we go away. It is ten years old now but I'm sure you can find similar online.

Another trip trap owner here. Started using them with the plastic balustrade, then kept lowering the foot piece as child grew. Will eventually get rid of the foot plinth when child can reach table herself. When she's got a desk for homework in her room she will use this as her chair and we'll go back to using our proper chairs for everyone at the table. Will be making her take the chair to university. I have a stokke from 1994, still absolutely solid and in perfect condition, I hope to have it for many more years to come.

Loved the Antilop for the usual reasons, but when that was outgrown we moved on to a Tripp-Trap-like one, which I also heartily recommend. For those who like me find the Stoke Tripp-Trap too pricey, there is a Babydan version which is very similar but half the price (or less: currently £60 at Tesco). I actually preferred the more rounded design of the Babydan to the Tripp-Trap sharp angles anyway, so for me it was a no brainer.

Our DDs are now 6 and 3 and our two Babydan chairs are still used daily. Even if they could reach the table at this age, it makes them much more comfortable to be at the right height and not have their feet dangling. Because the chairs tuck away under the table like a normal seat there is no need to fold them. Although the legs do stick out, so it's best if you can position them somewhere where there is likely to be less walking around, e.g. the seat closest to the wall.

I really like the IKEA one too. We used it in a hospital once and it was great and much less faff than the one we had. We had a huge complex fisher price one.

My dm said "get one that's stable enough to reliably contain the enthusiasm of a juvenile Gorilla", which I thought was good advice.

I started a thread on this a while back and the Ikea Antilop was recommended. DD is so pleased with it. Really easy to clean. Their first one was an absolute gunge collector and had a fabric seat which didn't remove for cleaning. The Ikea one is, neat (although it doesn't fold away) and DGD seems very comfortable in it. They brought it when they came to stay with me and although my flat is tiny it still fit in my teeny kitchen.

The Baby Bjorn has all the good points of the Antilop but also folds, has an adjustable tray and doesn't have any faffy straps. You can pick them up second hand on ebay/local selling sites for around £60ish usually.

Ikea antilop with the inflatable cushion. It's the best I've used - we've used others at friends/holidays etc and no others were as good.
We were given a mamas and papas wooden one. Looks lovely, to clean

Oh and the seat cover comes off and can go in the wash I used to wash it every few weeks when he was little. Easily wiped down in a few mins too.

I have this one like this for ds2 but it was £49.99 I had the same one for ds1 he used it until he was 3 because it can go low down too he even liked to sit in it to watch TV and draw. I love the fact it can be sofa height table height or standing height and it reclines so the can just chill sitting in it watching you or the TV.
