How much do you send on LO at xmas?

As it says really! My DS is 6 and DD is 1 a few days before xmas!! Just curious to know how much others spend

£300 for DH and £300 for DD. I have spent over £1000 on DH. This year Im skint so wont be spending anywhere near as much. It depends on how much money is in the Bank at the time.

DS is a 22/12 baby last year he was 1 think we spent about £50 between bday and Xmas this year it might be a little more but not much. He has a house full of toys and books both sets of our parents, siblings, friends with kids will buy him stuff so he will be overloaded over the 2 days so seems pointless.

I love buying him stuff though so am sure next year will be a different story

I have four DC, aged 7, 5, 4 and 4. I've spent £38 on a joint present, and about £35 each (and £5 for stockings). So nearly £50 each.

My family have only ever spent a maximum of about 20-30 quid on xmas presents now we're older (probably not more when we were younger as there was five of us and money was tight) and we have a large family, so while I could afford to spend hundreds on them at xmas I'd never do it, as it would be so disproportionate, and I want to make sure he plays with everthing he gets.

DS1 is 4 and we spent about 60 quid on presents for his birthday (plus a tenner to attend a show) and for his xmas maybe 80 quid.

DS2 is 6 months and really we'd have gotten him nothing but for the fact we have DS1 who would be gutted if santa never got his little brother anything, so will spend 10-20 quid on him (just to fill a stocking and give him a little present).

Ds1 will be 5yo shortly before Christmas and I'll spend up to £100 for each event. He is having a bike this Christmas though so that may eat up more of the budget for his main present, so in reality I may spend up to £150 for Christmas. Dd2 is 1yo and I'll probably spend about £60-70 on her. I tend not to stick to a strict budget but get a main present for each and then smaller ones - the main present can be around £40 and might be something like Lego City. It's not about spending lots but more about having enough presents to open and get excited by. Many toys he'll love are actually small, like a small plush angry bird toy which I know he'll be delighted by.

I'm sorry but where do all go shopping. my Christmas expenses are way over. my teenager 16 gets about £300-£400 and I spend about the same on other two 11&5. the lo at 6months will probably b another £250. we also buy for our parents siblings nephews & a few family members. we both work and never get into debt for Christmas x

I'll spend about £50 on DD who is 17 months. She'll get another £50 spent on her by aunt and grandma so £100 in total.


The Christmas shop will cost £200 which will include some food treats. I am trying not to make too big a focus on presents and that's quite easy as £100 doesn't go far nowadays!

I am surprised people spend so much.

DC are 10, 7 and 3.

DD1 is 10 I just bought her a micro scooter for her birthday.. (£110).

I would probably buy one "big present" of £20-£25 and then some smaller stuff which they need anyway like PJs - so maybe £50 per child.

We already have a wii and not planning to upgrade, we have an ipad and nexus 7 so don't want more tablets in the house.

DD just sold her 3ds on ebay and bought an ipod with proceeds and her birthday money from other people, not really sure what else I would buy even if I wanted to spend more.

Probably around £50 each (DS1 is 2.5, DS2 is 5mo). Not much they need at this point in time. Anything is a toy for DS2 and DS1 will just as happily play with some pots & pans in the kitchen as he'll do with bought kids toys.

To be fair though, we tend to buy small toys on an ad hoc basis throughout the year, we get given toys often by a neighbour and get one or two big toys for birthdays.

Last year we spent £39.99 on DS's present and £42 on his Xmas stocking.

This year I think we will probably spend around £150 in total as I'm back at work and last year I was on unpaid maternity leave.

I think children don't notice the amount you spend, so I would say to spend whatever you can afford and not let other peoples choices make you feel guilty. One of my friends seems to buy so much for her lo all year around, but I can't keep up with that so I'm not going to even try!

Stockings, don't know, but I think that is where we will spend the most. Just little bits and pieces, craft kits, small toys, pyjamas, chocolate and sweets, books, DVDs. I reckon it might be well over 50 Euros per child, eek! Haven't bought the stuff yet though, so don't know

Pantomime tickets for the whole family will be another hundred, probably. Haven't bought those yet either.

This year I'm a single parent for the first time so it will be £200 on dd1 (she's 4 I can get bucket loads for that amount) and about £50 on dd2 (she will be 6 months so won't have a clue)

I've been saving for a while so I won't be skint. There is only 2 paydays left until Christmas and they pay the bills so I'm glad I've saved.

I've got a bit put away for family too but it will be gift vouchers for everyone. I don't have the time to trail around shops and most of them will be happy with vouchers for the sales.

Dds will be spoiled by both sets of grandparents and aunties and uncles etc so I can relax a bit knowing that granny is buying the bike and grandad is buying the barbie dream house. I've been trying to talk him out of it - £200 for a big piece of plastic crap that will break within a month, that I don't have room for and that will drive me up the wall

DD is 13 months so we can get away with buying very little. Last Christmas a basket to make a treasure basket, her birthday a second hand Wheelybug for £20 from eBay, this year a kitchen - either a Brio one or IKEA.

I spend what I can. Some years that's been £1000+ and some years it's been £100. It's depended on our circumstances at the time.

I remember my PFBs first christmas. (7 months old) We were blessed to be flush during those days. I spent many, many hundreds of pounds on him. He had a pile of gifts as high as the tree (I have a photo.)

He spent the day eating wrapping paper, stroking boxes and crying every time I tried to force a toy on him I learned my lesson and my second born got little more than a rattle and some tat his first year.

Still makes me laugh. I didn't have a clue

Dd will be 10 months and probably won't get anything from us. She's got millions of toys already and will get enough to open from family, not that she'll want anything except the wrapping paper. I'm looking forward to going present-mad in future years though.

I'll put £250 into each ones bank account, and spend probably £100-£150 on dc1 for toys and clothes and dc2 will be 4 months so probably only a few sleepsuits and couple toys so maybe £50.

DD is 3. Birthday 3 days before Xmas. I think the first couple of years we only spent about £50 in total for both occasions - not out of lacn of money really, but we got lots of stuff in sales etc and it seemed like plenty of presents when considered presents from others as well. i did buy her bitsand pieces in the summer then too, with it in mind that we hadn't spent much in December. This year probably looking more like £80 per occasion - already bought lots of bits and pieces and the 'main' presents I want to get are more expensive - £50ish. I think i would try to stay under £100 per occasion each year, unless it was something really special, and I'm sure that will go down if we have another DC.

£200 each for 3 teenagers, plus another £200 on extras such as the chocolates, cakes & other Xmas foods, decorations, stocking fillers etc. That's £800, and I save between £50 and £100 every month throughout the year in to a special Xmas savings account for the purpose. Having once suffered badly from post xmas-debt I try to remember that Christmas happens every year whether I am ready for it or not! As others have said, teenagers are much more expensive than little ones!
