Flowers: Old Wives Tale Needed!

Wondered if anyone could help, recently got a beautiful bunch of white lillies, the flowers are just starting to come out, but the leaves are wilting!

In the depths of my brain I'm sure there is a flower tip that involves putting something in the water, is it sugar?

Anyone a keen flower girl?

ems, FYI it doesn't have to be a 2p - any copper coin will do. It works really well with tulips and daffs - haven't tried it with lilies yet.

Thanks Charliecat, I'll try that too.

Snip off an inch at the botton of the stems usually revamps wilting flowers too.

Thanks guys, will try the 2p, sounds intriguing! I'd heard the pin one works for gerberas, they are gorgeous flowers, but do droop quite quickly.

Another tulip one, to the stalks from carrying on growing when they are in the vase you have to stick a pin through the stalk just below the flower head. Also apparently to improve water absorption to cut flowers like roses you should bash up the cut end before putting in the vase.

No idea on that one but aging aunt recommended putting a 2 pence piece into the vase to stop tulips drooping - works too!! Hate to admit that I experimented by putting half a bunch in a vase with 2p and half without just to check - how sad is that?

Yes, I think that works, also soluble aspirin!!
