Agree with others that it was very upsetting. I'd guessed that someone was going to die from the trailers and, like www, realised it would be Adam or Rachel when they lingered on the shots of them saying "I love you"... Yes, it's only a Tv programme but when things like this are depicted it brings up loads of fears and, for me, horrible memories. My mum was killed in a road accident when I was 9 and literally went out of the door one Sunday afternoon and never came home. It's so shocking when something like this happens and it makes me feel so anxious about dh and dd and my other loved ones. I'm NEVER one of those people who would say "oh I never thought it could happen to me", because I'm only too aware that thing like this DO happen. I wouldn't say I'm a real misery guts, in fact, I'd say was quite an optimist about lots of things. But I've had 2 more sudden bereavements in the last 13 months and it does definitely shake your belief in "happy ever after". Couldn't stop thinking about Cold Feet all last night. Sorry - didn't mean to go on or get everyone on a downer...

Moomin, that's very moving and brings it home that although it's only a story, CF does reflect people's real-life experiences. you sound like a very brave, positive person, not a moaner!
Marina - did I miss the philandering? I mean, it's obvious that he is because she was cleaning his kitchen floor (tv-speak for doormat before the betrayal-type woman) but my recent viewing has been shall we say a bit fractured! I wasn't that angry re: Rachel's death because I've found her character extremely irritating of late - but I still found it very very sad and what made it worse was dh (or not so d on this occasion) came in right at that moment and took the p*ss! (obviously not a fan.. )

Oooh Bundle, who do you think Jo shared that bottle of Jack Daniels with in the hotel room (sordid, or what...or are we just meant to think she had sex with him?)
Thanks Moomin, for sharing that too. Since I lost a baby last year I find any dramatisation of crisis in hospitals very, very upsetting - it never seems to do justice to the anguish, however high the production values or sincere the script.

oh gawd Marina - how THICK am I?? (don't answer that )...let's put it down to late pregnancy brain depletion I love Ramona too so I propose that we tie those lead weights - the large ones you dive to the bottom of the pool for during your bronze medallion - to the dangly bits of the swim instructor and forget about them.

But where to attach them, frankly, Bundle...What a no-hoper he is. I only realised it was LEE when someone referred to him by name, these beefy fitness instructors all look the same to me...

Marina, I definitely missed the striking resemblance, underlined by his name...pity they don't lace tv dramas with a few more clues (big placard with HE'S BEHIND YOU) for pregnant women/people with Alzheimers/husbands who don't pay any attention to ANY aspect of plots

I only got it because of the name. In my defense, we were wathcing it on the portable TV in our bedroom so the picture was small!

Bundle, Ceefax subtitles are a big help in our house...shame they don't also include plot hints.

bundle · 10/03/2003 15:44

I like subtitles too (they're particularly good now we've got a Freeview box, sort of a bit classier ) but dh gets arsey when I put them on.

well I thought it was really sad too so told dh who said, "but it's not real" - whereupon I rounded on him and asked him if that meant that he was incapable of being moved by anything he ever saw, read, heard etc etc.

Yes, it is the last one next week and I think it's Jenny too.

Remember it was Lee who got Pete really going on the 'only married you for a visa' thing? He said that Jo had proposed to him once 'but it was a joke'. He is such a .

Whilst we were watching, I was trying to guess who was going to die - said to DH that I thought it was going to be Pete initially as I thought Jo would go to Brum, cop off with someone then come back and find she was a widow. It wouldn't have made any sense to kill off Jo - she's not been around long enough.

Then, like everyone else, I realised that the 'I love you' conversations were pretty significant, especially as Rachel was making no effort to keep her eyes on the road at all.

My experience of hospitals and death is fortunately limited to elderly relatives but I have to admit to a fascination with all things medical on TV, including Children's Hospital which I have to watch as often as possible to remind myself how lucky I am. And I am glued to Casulatyl/Holby City, desperate to know if Tony is going to pull through.

We first watched Cold Feet in NZ, when we were out there when DH's mum was terminally ill. It was the first series and somehow we've managed to keep up with it, even through moves around the world in the meantime. I'm not really ready for it to go yet.

What's happened to Tony? Is he the gay midwife's boyfriend? I only watch Holby. Went off Casualty a while ago.

Ah well, they are doing Holby City/Casualty plot crossovers in a desperate plea to hook us in. Basically, John (the blond one who used to be in Corrie and in Holby City was going out with Ben till Ben found out he was married when his wife had a baby in the unit) has come back and said he had left his wife and wanted to get back with Ben. They went to a club together and slept together in last week's Holby City. Then in Saturday's Casualty he showed up when Ben was taking Tony out for a guilt-induced dinner and did tell all. So then Tony walked out and Ben followed him but they had fisticuffs which ended in Tony falling off the sea wall into the water and hitting a yacht on the way down. Cue Internal injuries, massive bleeding, he's in VF, fight for life, etc. It all continues on tomorrow's Holby City.

I was thinking Tony and this John could go back to Coronation Street where there would be uproar as people discovered that not only was Natalie's son back from the dead, but was gay and with Sally's ex-fiance who left her the day before the wedding after he found out that she slept with Kevin again you may recall. In fact thinking about it, didn't Natalie turn up in Holby City and date Mubbs briefly. Did she not notice her dead son from Corrie was working as a security guard. I wonder do I really need to get a life?

tech, I'm glad to see that you have a life that includes watching TV and not just sorting out Mumsnet IT problems for us!

It was only last night that I suddenly realised that CF is Adam and Rachel's story - hence why one of them had to die. Only been watching it for five series, doh...

SueW · 10/03/2003 22:34

I don't watch Corrie so I'd never realised there was all that 'crossover' too. LOL.

Moomin · 11/03/2003 19:56

Yes, wasn't "Natalie" someone's mum in Holby City? She definitely copped off with Mubbs though. Glad Alex is back. Reminds me of dh when he has his scrubs on (dh also works in operating theatres) Grrrrr........

Lisa (?) the midwife's mother got off with Mubbs at one point - is that who you mean?

No I don't think it was Lisa's mum. I remembered as I was watching tonight; wasn't she the mum of the girl who worked on the children's ward, the one who was date-raped by Liam, who later fell off the balcony?! Makes you realise just what a dirty old dog Mubbs is! and also what an accident-prone lot they all are. If they're not tending to patients, they're in the next bed themselves!

SueW · 11/03/2003 23:21

What's the matter with Alex - why did that patient die tonight or was it purely an accident? Keating was having a bit of a go about Alex having the shakes?

Oh Moomin, how awful. It must have been terrible for you to watch it.

Watching that was a bit of a revelation for me. I refused to look at DH as I didn't want him to see me cry. So I concentrated on eating an apple all the way through, turned to DH at the end with my eyes dry but choked, only to see him crying his eyes OUT. He was upset for ages.
It was very realistic. Jimmy Nesbit was awesome.

Well, I reckon its Adam's dad in drag. Well, it would brighten things up a bit. Hey, maybe I could write the script.

It definatley Jenny, pete's ex as I saw a clip on TV last night.
Did anyone else watch the 'Final call' thingy about cold feet last night? They showed a little bit of the last episode with Rachels funeral and my eyes filled with tears at only 30 second of it.
My god I going to get through a whole box of tissues on sunday.

Didn't Adam have a fling with Jen - can't remember that well - if so is it his baby?

Report
Moomin · 15/03/2003 15:40

No, they didn't sleep together. She developed a bit of a crush on him and kissed him and it ended there because he was so freaked out, if I remember rightly.

Let's hope they start repeating them all from the beginning now it's over!
