Mumsnetters needed to visit a Butlins resort – free stay in return for feedback NOW CLOSED

Butlins are looking for ten lucky MNers and their families to enjoy a free stay at a Butlins resort and post their feedback on MN.

Butlins say “We have been providing family breaks for nearly 80 years, and although we’ve changed with the times, many people still believe that we’re old fashioned and run down. We’re looking to change these negative perceptions and show Mumsnetters that we’re a 21st century holiday destination, which offers brilliant family breaks at great value for money”

We're looking for families who are able to visit the following resorts on the dates below:

  • July 18 – 21 : Minehead, Bognor Regis or Skegness
  • July 25 - 28: Minehead, Bognor Regis or Skegness
  • September 8 - 12: Minehead
  • September 15 - 19: Bognor Regis or Skegness
  • September 22 -26 : Minehead
  • October 31 - November 3: Minehead, Bognor Regis or Skegness
  • December 12 - 15: Minehead or Bognor Regis
  • December 15 - 19: Bognor Regis or Skegness
  • December 19 - 22: Minehead, Bognor Regis or Skegness

You can pick the resort and date you’d like to visit.

    The trip will include:
  • accommodation
  • breakfast and dinner
  • all entertainment
  • Splash Waterworld
  • Fairground

In return for this free trip (worth on average £650) each MNer will be asked to:
  • Make a video diary of their trip and submit this to Butlins. These videos will be edited and may be shown on the on Mumsnet, on Butlins.com and possibly elsewhere. They will be hosted on YouTube.
  • Add feedback to a thread on Mumsnet – at least twice. We're looking for feedback before you go and when you return. These comments may well be used by Butlins on Mumsnet and elsewhere (including on social media, in the press etc). Your MN name will not be used.
  • Add photos to the feedback thread (these don't need to show the children/ yourself, eg they could feature resort you’re staying in, food, etc)
  • Add a review on Mumsnet to the Self Catering pages
  • MNers visiting Butlins up to mid-September will also be asked to complete a feedback form for the Mumsnet Family Friendly programme

Unfortunately travel costs are not included, so please only sign up if you are happy to pay for your own travel.

In general, accommodation sleeps up to 6 people, but due to the combination of dates and locations, there are some restrictions. If you are interested, please apply and we will be allocating families based on their preferences and the rooms available.

If you'd like to sign up please add your details here.

We will be in touch with selected testers ASAP and their details will be passed to the team at Butlins so they can make the booking arrangements.

Thanks and good luck!

Fingers crossed. We haven't had a holiday for years due to my illness. I'm hoping for the kids

Butlins is great. We've been several times - the new Skegness waterworld is miles better than centreparcs and the activities are cheaper too. And the Skegness beach is beautiful. Yes there are a lot of people around, but there are pretty much everywhere.
I would suggest it is worth a weekend with kids - kids adore it!

We have not experienced Butlins despite only living 1.5 hours away. My youngest has been desperate to go after seeing all the adverts on TV. Every year she asks! Perhaps her dream will come true...

Good luck to all applicants. I am not expecting to be successful as I doubt we fit the demographic that Butlins are seeking. It's just me and DS so might not be enough.

Another vote for the Splashworld from me as well. We went to Bognor back in 2008 and DS adored it. My only whine is that it was PACKED....but it was so much fun,

Last time we went was about five years ago and we were lured by all the lovely middle class types in the adverts featuring the hotel . Got there, hotel was amazing and then we headed for the entertainment. Cannot fault the kids club stuff but my god the fucking rude people - shoving their kids to the front, turning up late and barging people to get their kid up on stage. Slot machines, queue for the swimming pool, nothing to do while everyone was expected to eat dinner, and a hideous bundle to see Chico one night. People were actually running through the queue to see him Shock. People next to us in the hotel checked out after one night.
We are going back in July as ds has begged for his bitthday. Happy to report back without the bias of a freebie ...

Done. Fingers and everything else crossed. Not been to a Butlins for 20 years but if they could keep all the tribe happy (all 4, one with Aspergers) then I'd be really impressed.

I would love to do this! The December one falls just 2 days after DS1's birthday, too, so would be an amazing birthday treat for him Grin

This seems very biased against families with school-aged children. As far as I can see there's a max of four dates (but possibly as low as one) that fit in with the state school holiday calendar...

We could certainly only do one of those offered (which I suspect will be the case for many, many other Mumsnetters up and down the land!).

This would be a brilliant trip to try out and review as many families like to have holidays in Britain and Butlins is one of the main contenders.
