This thread is for the 30 Mumsnetters who have been putting the new Invati hair care range from Aveda to the test. Below are a few of questions for you to answer but please feel free to add any other comments you may have.
Everyone who adds their feedback to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a hamper of the Stress-Fix Bodycare range worth £77.

Q1. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried any Aveda products before? If so, which ones? This could be any product, not just hair care.
Q2. Thinking about each product specifically, please tell us what you think of:

  • Invati Exfoliating Shampoo
  • Invati Thickening Conditioner
  • Invati Scalp Revitalizer

Q3.Now that you've been using the range for 8 weeks, have you noticed any difference to your hair? If so please tell us what has changed (e.g more volume, reduction in hair loss, thicker feeling hair?)
Q4. Do you think you will continue to use the Invati haircare range after the trial? If so, why? If not, why not?
Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Aveda Invati range to a friend or relative? If so, why? If not, why not?

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

Thank you Mumsnet for letting me take part in this trial. Like others I would never have tried the products otherwise.

Q1. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried any Aveda products before? If so, which ones? This could be any product, not just hair care.

No I hadn't.

Q2. Thinking about each product specifically, please tell us what you think of:

  • Invati Exfoliating Shampoo

I live in a very hard water area and I did find that it was not a very good lather. This might have been due to me using very little (trying to make sure it lasted 8 weeks), but even when I increased the amount it was a bit 'watery' Having said that it did leave my hair clean. The smell was ok as well.

  • Invati Thickening Conditioner

Not struck on this at all, unfortunately. Again, I didn't feel that there was enough to it. I did only use a small amout, so as not to weigh down my hair but it felt dry after using it.

  • Invati Scalp Revitalizer

There are simply not enough instructions! Initially I didn't know whether to put it on wet, damp or dry hair , but after squinting at the blurb, I realised it said to apply twice a day, so figured dry. Also I presume, (as there were not enough instructions) that you are suposed to put it on your scalp, not your actual hair? The clue is in the name? But (as there were not enough instructions, seeing a pattern here?) it was all a bit of guesswork. For the price I think the least you should get is a leaflet inside giving the bl**dy instructions, so we wouldn't be so mystified. As to the product it seemed ok, didn't sting me, I did forget to put it on later in the day several times.I presume it's meant to make your scalp healthier? I did appreciate the second bottle that was sent to me as I know it wouldn't have lasted 8 weeks, thank you.

Q3.Now that you've been using the range for 8 weeks, have you noticed any difference to your hair? If so please tell us what has changed (e.g more volume, reduction in hair loss, thicker feeling hair?)

Well I took longer on my hair as I was aware I was taking part in a trial! The volume is hard to judge as I have long hair and wear it tied back and flat (ish) to my head. It does feel a little thicker, although again could be due to me taking more time with it, and it certainly doesn't feel that my hair is any thinner, always a plus!

Q4. Do you think you will continue to use the Invati haircare range after the trial? If so, why? If not, why not?

I think I would use the scalp revitaliser, I still have half a bottle left for now.I expect the thing to do is finish it, not use it then see what I think.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Aveda Invati range to a friend or relative? If so, why? If not, why not?

If someone I knew had a problem with thinning hair I would certainly tell them about these products, as people who are concerned about thinning/fine hair will try anything to help. However the price might be a problem for some.

You are right about the lack of instructions on the Invati Scalp Revitalizer - I was totally at a loss as to what to do with it - it somehow seems counter-intuitive to be putting stuff in your hair once it's washed/conditioned? That's why I never truly got to grips with it - and it's a process too far really unless you have loads of time for preening (which I don't).

Yes, the cap of the conditioner bottle (the shampoos stay within the shower unit in our house) kept filling up with water even when on the shelf so every time one opened it up to use one got a cap-full of cold water on oneself - a bit of a shock!

Q1. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried any Aveda products before? If so, which ones? This could be any product, not just hair care.
No, I had not heard of Aveda

Q2. Thinking about each product specifically, please tell us what you think of:

  • Invati Exfoliating Shampoo

My least favourite product, it didn't lather well and my hair felt greasy after use.
  • Invati Thickening Conditioner

Great, my hair felt heavier than usual and styled better. I used very small amount.
  • Invati Scalp Revitalizer

Horrid smell, lots of my colleagues commented on the awful so i stopped using in the morning BUT i think it works. see belo
Q3.Now that you've been using the range for 8 weeks, have you noticed any difference to your hair? If so please tell us what has changed (e.g more volume, reduction in hair loss, thicker feeling hair?)
Thicker hair, i can see new bits o hair along my hairline!!
Q4. Do you think you will continue to use the Invati haircare range after the trial? If so, why? If not, why not?
Will try to save up to buy conditioner once a month, it is too expensive
Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Aveda Invati range to a friend or relative? If so, why? If not, why not?
if they can afford it then yes but otherwise not worth mentioning

Q1. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried any Aveda products before? If so, which ones? This could be any product, not just hair care.

No, never used any products before.

Q2. Thinking about each product specifically, please tell us what you think of:

  • Invati Exfoliating Shampoo

I found the shampoo ok, thought it lathered fine. I wasn't keen on the smell and it really hurt if it wet in my eyes! I wash my hair everyday so didn't find it lasted the full 8 weeks.

  • Invati Thickening Conditioner

I have thin hair that is prone to getting greasy, and I found the conditioner just made my hair lank and greasy. Wasn't keen at all.

  • Invati Scalp Revitalizer

I thought this was ok but the smell was far too over powering. I didn't like the smell anyway, but felt that it was so strong that I could smell it all day every time I moved my head. It was worse if I used it on wet hair then dried it, as it then smelt a bit burnt?! This might not have been such a problem if I was more keen on the smell tho...not sure. As I said if I used it on wet hair I felt it smelled worse, but if I used it on dry hair I felt it didn't quite dry in that well.

Q3.Now that you've been using the range for 8 weeks, have you noticed any difference to your hair? If so please tell us what has changed (e.g more volume, reduction in hair loss, thicker feeling hair?)

Sorry, no I haven't really noticed much difference at all.

Q4. Do you think you will continue to use the Invati haircare range after the trial? If so, why? If not, why not?

No, apart from the price I didn't really think it made any difference to my hair apart from making it greasier.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Aveda Invati range to a friend or relative? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would perhaps mention it, but would say I didn't have much luck with it, but I think for most people it is a bit on the expensive side.

Thanks very much for letting me take part Smile

Q1. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried any Aveda products before? If so, which ones? This could be any product, not just hair care.
No

Q2. Thinking about each product specifically, please tell us what you think of:

  • Invati Exfoliating Shampoo- really liked the shampoos, made hair lovely and soft, smelt nice and was a good consistency.

  • Invati Thickening Conditioner- too runny, didn't much like the smell, didn't have the effect on my hair other conditioners do.

  • Invati Scalp Revitalizer- poor instructions, awful if you use too much makes my hair heavy and look weird, but right amount used before drying added some ooompf!

Q3.Now that you've been using the range for 8 weeks, have you noticed any difference to your hair? If so please tell us what has changed (e.g more volume, reduction in hair loss, thicker feeling hair?)
My hair was feeling and looking thicker within a week or so, lovely and soft too.

Q4. Do you think you will continue to use the Invati haircare range after the trial? If so, why? If not, why not?
No because its exceptionally expensive, also conditioner is something my hair needs and I really didn't get on with the invati one.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Aveda Invati range to a friend or relative? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, it does make your hair feel and appear thicker and beautifully soft.

Q1. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried any Aveda products before? If so, which ones? This could be any product, not just hair care.

Yes. But only at my hairdressers and I don't know which products they use but I assume it is for curly hair as mine is curly and they smell lovely. I have also had some mini ones from hotels I have stayed in at some point over the years.

Q2. Thinking about each product specifically, please tell us what you think of:

  • Invati Exfoliating Shampoo - I detested this product. I think the smell was dreadfully overpowering and even my husband who has very little sense of smell commented on it. It didn't lather well either so it didn't even feel luxurious and at the high RRP I would want something that felt special.

  • Invati Thickening Conditioner - This felt extremely thin and it weighed down my hair and as my hair is fine and curly it left it looking very lank and lacklustre. I also got an extremely sore and dry scalp after using the products, I am not sure which one to attribute that side effect to but I do not have sensitive skin but my poor head obviously felt something wasn't right.

  • Invati Scalp Revitalizer - Same overpowering smell that colleagues also commented on which I found embarassing. It was a herbal, medical smell so it wasn't even a nice perfumed scent. I also stopped using this product in the morning because of this. And I reluctantly carried on using it in the hope that my hair would feel thicker.

Q3.Now that you've been using the range for 8 weeks, have you noticed any difference to your hair? If so please tell us what has changed (e.g more volume, reduction in hair loss, thicker feeling hair?) I have noticed no positive effects of using these products, quite the opposite, my hair loss didn't improve or even appear thicker and my hair looked lank and lacklustre whilst doing this trial. I would have been prepared to pay the steep RRP had it worked though.

Q4. Do you think you will continue to use the Invati haircare range after the trial? If so, why? If not, why not? Absolutely not. I have bought the products had they worked and smelt nice etc but I didn't feel they worked and I had a sore and dry scalp as a side effect. I was very glad to stop the trial which was a disappointment.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Aveda Invati range to a friend or relative? If so, why? If not, why not? No. Because of all the reasons given above and it was a disappointment as Aveda is known for quality. I am very glad that I had the opportunity to try them though.

Firstly a big thankyou to Aveda and Mumsnet for letting me take part in the trial.
I have fine curly hair in a bob somewhere between chin and shoulders. It used to be more voluminous, but thyroid issues and being mid-40s has thinned it. On the dry side as I have highlights. I have very sensitive skin.
Q1. Have I tried Aveda before?
Yes, the shampure shampoo, chamomile shampoo and conditioner, and some other haircare things that I can't remember the names of.
Q2. What I thought of each product.
Well, I liked the woody smell of the shampoo, the colour, and the less sudsy texture (I am used to natural products with less of a lather, and so don't associate suds with cleaning power). I didn't use it without the conditioner so can't separate the effects. Found I only needed a small amount so the bottle would last well.
The conditioner again had an almost masculine woody/herbal smell which I liked, and it left my hair soft, didn't destroy the curls, and gave a good result.
I was less sure about the spray revitaliser, it made my hair look lank quickly, if I used it my hair needed washing every day, rather than every other. I liked the smell although it is very strong so might clash with fragrances for some people.
Q3. Have you seen results at the end of the 8 week trial?
Well I had to stop using the products a few weeks ago as I had a major allergic reaction. almost certainly to antibiotics I was on, but until allergy testing I have to avoid anything I used that morning. Prior to that I did think there was less hair loss when I washed it, and a slight improvement in thickness. I did find it impossible to use the spray as often as suggested because of the way it made my hair look, so that may have meant less of an effect too. I liked the shampoo and conditioner though, and will use them again if I get the all clear from the allergy clinic.
Q4. would I continue to use the products? Yes, some of them, see above.
Q5. Would I recommend the Aveda Invati range to a friend if it came up in conversation? Yes. I liked it enough to suggest it to a friend. Think the scents of the products are very unisex too, so I would happily suggest the range to a bloke. Did say to DH he should try it, but he can't yet until its ruled out as an allergy risk for me. (again want to add that it is almost certainly not the products that caused my reaction, I just have to be super cautious).

Q1. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried any Aveda products before? If so, which ones? This could be any product, not just hair care.

Before this test I had not tried any Aveda Products before.

Q2. Thinking about each product specifically, please tell us what you think of:
- Invati Exfoliating Shampoo I liked this shampoo my hair felt really clean after using it, I didn't need to use a lot when using it, It did smell quite strong apparently(I rarely have a sense of smell) although I did smell it once when using it.
- Invati Thickening Conditioner Again I like d the conditioner and I am pretty certain it did have an effect on my usually fine flat hair, it did look thicker after a couple of washes with the conditioner added.
- Invati Scalp Revitalizer I liked using the scalp revitiliser but only on wet hair, I tried it on dry hair and it made my hair feel funny to the touch.

Q3.Now that you've been using the range for 8 weeks, have you noticed any difference to your hair? If so please tell us what has changed (e.g more volume, reduction in hair loss, thicker feeling hair?) Now I have bben using the products for 8 weeks I feel my hair looks a lot thicker, not really noticed any difference in hair loss, but my hair does feel thicker.

Q4. Do you think you will continue to use the Invati haircare range after the trial? If so, why? If not, why not? I would love to continue using the range although I feel the £20 ish price tag for the shampoo / conditioner might stop me as this is a lot of money to spend on a product for myself.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Aveda Invati range to a friend or relative? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would recommend then to somone looking for a product to thicken their hair, but unfortunatly I think the price would put most people off.

Hi, just wanted to say thanks to both Mumsnet and Aveda for letting me take part in this! For background information, I have very fine curly hair. I generally wash it every other day occasionally every day and have day 1 curly, day 2 straightened.
I am on very strong medication that is known to cause hair loss/thinning and I also have to take iron injections so this can also contribute to hair thinning at certain times.

Q1. Before taking part in this product test, had you ever tried any Aveda products before? If so, which ones? This could be any product, not just hair care.

No although I have used other expensive hair products to try and help with hair loss.

Q2. Thinking about each product specifically, please tell us what you think of:

  • Invati Exfoliating Shampoo

I really liked this, I felt like it gave my hair a really good clean and brought a shine to it that wasn't there before (probably from build up of products). The best thing was that I suffer with a dry scalp and would avoid wearing dark clothing etc because of dandruff flecks. The shampoo has cleared this up - I am sure that it is the shampoo that has done this as I stopped using the scalp revitalizer for a couple of weeks during the trial as I had an operation and quite hard recovery so just washing my hair was a task for me but I continued to use the shampoo and remained dandruff free.
In terms of lathering, I had no problem but think that I must use an awful lot of shampoo as I bought a second bottle a couple of weeks ago as my first had run out!

  • Invati Thickening Conditioner

I'm not sure about the effect of this - I liked the way it was fairly light weight and therefore didn't make my hair greasy like my normal conditioner would but I also didn't get the nice soft smooth feeling that I would get with my normal conditioner.

  • Invati Scalp Revitalizer

This is fairly stinky and I would use it once a day, sometimes twice as advised but I sleep with my head under the duvet and the smell in an enclosed space could be pretty strong and even DH commented on it!
This product def gave my hair volume and life and I think the fact that you have to massage it into your scalp is a good thing as from what I have read previously, scalp massage is good for your hair. When I wear my hair curly I was also able to just use the scalp spray and massage my hair and leave it without needing an additional product on top.

Q3.Now that you've been using the range for 8 weeks, have you noticed any difference to your hair? If so please tell us what has changed (e.g more volume, reduction in hair loss, thicker feeling hair?)
Yes, a big difference! As I said above, my hair is fine and I do get quite alot of hair loss. Prior to using this product my bathroom would be covered in my hair; there would be hair balls on the carpet and even when I moisturised my body I would end up with strands of hair that had fallen out stuck to me. Since starting this 8 week period though, my hair loss has massively decreased. I still get a bit in my hairbrush but no more than is normal I would say. My dry scalp has also cleared up which is something that I wouldn't have expected.

Q4. Do you think you will continue to use the Invati haircare range after the trial? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes I will continue to use it and I have bought myself another bottle of the shampoo as mine ran out. I noticed when I had my operation and stopped using the spray, that I was losing hair again. This may be though that I wasn't really eating and was ill after the operation I'm not sure. I am now scared to stop using the products!

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Aveda Invati range to a friend or relative? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes.
