Hello lovely MNers, I'm after a bit of objective advice as feeling very confused.

I had a previous ectopic two years ago and am currently 6+6 by my dates. Obviously have been very worried about having another ectopic so GP arranged for me to have an early scan on Tuesday. (So 6+2).

The scan didn't show anything definitive, they said there could be a pregnancy there but no heartbeat etc. Had bloods done on Tuesday and hcg was 639, 48 hours later it had only risen to 826 so not great.

Had another scan yesterday morning as started very mild spotting and still nothing to see. Sonographer said the possible pregnancy had increased in size but with such low hcg it is probably a failed pregnancy. She also had a good look in my right tube (left was removed after previous ectopic) and again, she found something very small but couldn't say for sure if it was an ectopic pregnancy.

After seeing the Dr they have booked me another scan for next Friday with instructions to go straight back if any more pain etc. I'm still spotting a little but they were reluctant to treat me as being ectopic until they knew for sure as it would probably result in losing my right tube also.

I am just so confused as to what is happening. Does anyone have a similar experience? I guess I might just miscarry and it not be an ectopic pregnancy but the Dr couldn't say for sure that it wasn't a viable pregnancy just measuring behind. I think I'm desperately clinging onto hope but would it be better to prepare for the worse?

Thanks ladies

Hey, us women never stop worrying eh! Firstly, hugs x. Secondly your experience doesn't sound too dissimilar to mine although I have no experience of ectopic pg. I conceived on Clomid (aeons ago now in 2004) and so was under the EPU. I had a first scan, no heartbeat and the measurements did not add up as far as their averages were concerned. The sonographer was quite calm and told me that was quite usual at 6 weeks for no firm heartbeat. I then started spotting quite a bit, it was almost mild period like but blow me another scan just ten days later then showed a heartbeat. I then bled (not spotted!) each month for about 2.5 days each of the next two months and was told that isn't unusual as the hormones are weaker earlier on. I then had healthy DD but under an emergency CS due to placental abrubtion. I then had two more pg, they didn't last the course - I look back and the major difference was my sense of smell and tenderness in my breasts which stayed with the DD who hung in there despite all the bleeding and the next two where the high sense of smell disappeared and the tenderness went fairly abruptly too.

Hope all works out for you x
