He's been found not guilty today at the old bailey, 9 years after being accused of killing Jill Dando

He is a rapist. I'm sorry he has been released.

I feel sorry for Barry George - he did not deserve the conviction for murder.

Having said that - he is a deeply worrying individual and needs long term supervision.

When Barry George confessed to rape he crumbled under questioning and I suspect that he would have done the same if guilty of murder. Quite simply it sounds as though he does not have the capacity to carry on pretending he was innocent if he wasn't.

Sad sad state of affairs - a man innocent of murder has been wrongly convicted and the real killer has now long gone.

If he didn't murder JD then of course it's unfortunate that he was wrongly convicted, and scary that there is a killer out there.

But it's not as if the police looked at the local oddball and thought "oh wait, he looks a bit strange, we need a conviction, let's fit him up," is it? During the time they followed him he stalked 38 women! in a 3 week period.

This isn't about a lovely upstanding member of the community being fitted up for a crime he didn't commit, when you play with fire and stalk and harrass women at some point this is going to come back to haunt you and maybe, just maybe, you will be sent down for something you didn't do.

wannabe .. if anyone you know is convicted of murder i take it you would describe it as unfortunate ..when the sentence was found as unsafe..

mmj ..in documentry last year the forensics of this case were thrown into disarray ...the small amount of gunpowder in his pocket was thought to have come into contact with his clothing from the police photographic lab...

i'd be angry at the cops, not this individual..

well that depends. If someone I knew was wrongly convicted of murder, someone who was a lovely, well loved person, then I would be devostated for them.

But if someone I knew who had spent their life stalking women, who had been convicted of attempted rape and sexual asalt was then sent down for murder, I A wouldn't really be that devostated as they wouldn't be considered to be among my close circle of friends, and B, would wonder if maybe a bit of justice hadn't been done for his victims, and that the streets had been a safer place without him for the past 9 years. Carma, you know.

It's got sod all to do with 'reading the tabloids'. He was convicted of attempted rape - a crime he CONFESSED to. It is an undisputed fact. According to his victim he actually raped her, the 'attempted' part of the charge was a technicality. She was only 20 and a foreign student. It must have been horrific for her. Most rape victims - especially in stranger rapes - are afraid they are going to be murdered. I have ZERO sympathy for rapists (not to mention stalkers). I am glad he was in prison and sorry he has been let out. London is now a less safe place for women. There is no evidence that his conviction allowed the 'real killer' to go free. After a massive and complex police investigation there were no other suspects at all.

We simply cannot have a 'justice' system based on 'karma'.

I'm not saying it's wrong that he's freed if the evidence isn't there, but I still think the world was a better place with this very violent and disturbed man in prison instead of out there able to stalk and rape and attack again (his ex wife says he beat and raped her too, btw).
And 'understand' perfectly, thank you as I'm no less intelligent than you smw.
I couldn't care less what happens to him. If he fell under a bus I wouldn't shed a tear.
