Heated clothes horses

I was considering purchasing one of these when I saw an adin the back of one of the supps. We need an extra clothes horse for drying anyway (live in flat/modern flat radiators/new baby on way)but I was wondering if this might be a wise/sucker (delete as appropriate) purchase? The ad said it cost something like (?) 3p and hour to run.

Any thoughts, anyone?

A while ago in The Times the man who did the 'green living' column recommended them as being quite environmentally friendly compared to a tumble dryer.

I have talked to Dh about getting one and will probably do so in the future.

I think someone recommended the Lakeland one on here a few weeks ago.

Thing is, with a normal airer you can just hang the washing up and then go out for the day or go to bed. Can you do that with these?

Mmm. I'm dubious about the environmental benefits of them. I think that a tumble drier only costs about 40p/cycle; that's about what it would cost to have the heated towel rail on overnight, so no cost/energy saving at all.

i find it cheaper than the dryer and also mine onl heats up the inside rails and you dont need to have it on all the time, you can use it without the electric being on just as a normal airer.

so yes it does save funds in my opinion.

I have one, and I find it very useful. I can dry things quite quickly by lying them flat over the rails and moving them a little every now and then. Not as quickly as a tumble dryer obviously, but it's still good.

I don't have a tumble dryer at all now. We only have room for a combination washer/dryer and I always hated it, it didn't wash all that well and the dryer really knackered the clothes. So when it broke down I replaced it with with an ordinary washing machine.

how quickly do they dry the clothes?
i usually stand my normal airer in front of the hall radiator, also the best plce for it in flat due to space and the clothes generally dry overnight (unless its heavy bits ie jeans) and in the summer the clothes dry this quickly without the heating.

wouldnt they only dry the bit that touching the rail? or am i missing something?

no they dry all the bits of the clothes , just like a normal airer.

where was yours from hb? I have a tumble drier but find that I manage to shrink loads of clothes and/or quite a few arent suitable to go in the td so am considering one but the lakeland looks more expensive!

Try Lakeland. It works well as an ordinary dryer when the weather is better and more stable too - esp around small children. Particularly good for small items and no risk of getting burnt. Def agree that combi washer/dryers useless.

I've got one and it's absolutely brilliant - I highly recommend them. I got mine from one advertised in the back of one of the Sunday sups, but having checked the brand name: Easylife and looked at their website this electric towel airer is the closest thing to it - the one I have is just one layer.

I found this one, it seems identical to one on Amazon for £39:
