Cheer me up - stuck in hospital in Paris

I could do with cheering up ... Came away for 2 nights to Paris with dh and ds10 had major fibroid haemorrhage last night and was blue lighted to hospital 3 hours of surgery doing d&c and emboli station then blood transfusion.

So so scared and now feeling as though I have been run over by a bus not unsurprisingly . Have to stay for another night the get further surgery - prob hysterectomy and may need further transfusion tonight. Dh and ds now gone up Eiffel Tower I am lying in bed with massive weird knickers 3 drips and huge pad on - plus I l

You poor thing. Am too far away in Normandy to visit, but sending a hug. I had horrible fibroids and a hysterectomy twenty years ago, but once that was done, I was absolutely fine.

It's scary being in hospital away from home. I was hospitalised in France the first time after about ten years living there and that was scary enough. Paris hospitals are good though - especially for gyn issues. I know of some Paris based English speaking gyns if your insurance will cough up for a visit (though they may already be linked to your hospital). Write down your questions for the doctors when they do their rounds, and demand pain relief when needed. They are big on pain relief in France. You're at least in your own room? Or no more than two patients? If you can't be moved home yet then there is the American Hospital in Paris if your insurance will pay for it - they are good, used to anglo patients but private.

They'll be testing your haemoglobin levels btw, to see how much you're losing. Am not a doctor but had major blood loss once and the 6am tests each morning are not a happy memory.

Thanks for posts... Feel absolutely drained so sort of hope do get more blood to perk me up. I have just enough painkillers - only paracetem but enough to take edge off. No English speakers on shift yet so bit lonely and vvvvvvv tired although may be sleeping tablets! Never taken them before. Thanks for all kind words it does help!

I would guess with your bleeding they don't want to give any nsaids (ibuprofen) butthe anti spasmodic thing should help you feel more comfortable.

Hope you feel better soon. The tiredness will be the blood loss, sleep again if you can while the results come back.
It is normal to feel crap.
I had an hemorrhagia when I had DD1 and the UK nurse just patronised me "It is normal to bleed after birth, love" and went . At least you seem to be in safe hands and hospitals in Paris are good.

If you have questions and need any translation in french just ask, my french is very very good .
I also have a gyn in my family, too far north for you, but she might be able to recommend someone if things get worse.

Thanks all- blood tests came back and are low but ok enough so they are discharging me this afternoon. That's means can get 4 pm train home.
Next issue is trying to get some paperwork from the dr to take back have just had frustrating 20 mins on phone with my dr's with them saying they need something for the hospital because they have to um no they don't so am waiting a call back from duty dr to see if they can refer directly . Is any one able to write this down in French for me so I can show them?

Ie need a letter explaining what has happened been done to me so my dr can action in the uk.???

Not perfect but they will understand. Normally when you were admitted you will have given them the name and address of your GP in the UK - did they ask this of you or your DH? They are supposed to write to them anyway but if they didn't this will jog them along. You might need to start harassing them now if you want to be out by 4 though.

I have all my discharge papers so can go when I want - the first train we could get us at 4 so didn't want to be hanging about station too long. Dh coming in an hour to help me get dressed packed up. But gynae yesterday said that they would wait to receive a fax from my dr asking the questions .....

You are welcome. If they write out, in medical French, your symptoms, surgery and other treatment, give you a copy of your bloods from this morning and any other they took, and your discharge prescription the UK doctors will be able to work it out - medical French and medication names are pretty similar.

I have shown French blood reports to UK doctors over thg years and they have always been able to understand it.

The basics will be on your discharge papers. Good luck with the trip home, take it very easy, and hope the French hospital system hasn't been too traumatic.

At the Eurostar so one bit of journey down, feel like an old old woman.... Train is in 11/2 hrs, then 2 1/2 hrs to train then 11/2 hrs home in taxi .... 5 1/2 hrs till I can get into bed.....

Well done I think you've been pretty brave tackling a journey like that. I'd have asked the insurqnce to cough up for some resting up time in a plush hotel :)
