Any vegetarians about able to give their opinion?

I'm trying to plan a menu that includes some veggie options for a christmas meal and really need some help as most of the time the options for veggies/vegans are some kind of nut roast, maybe mushroom risotto and that's about it!

In order to try something more interesting, I've come up with a few ideas - would any veggies/vegans out there be happy with these?

To start:
Cheese straws with red pepper dip (could be made cheese-less or with vegan cheese for vegans)
Rosemary, olive and goats cheese bruschetta (can be made with tomato instead of cheese for vegans)
Mushroom and tarragon pate (vegan)

Mains:
Veggie wellington (can be made vegan)
Squash, spinach and chickpea filo pie (vegan)
Butternut and sweet potato dauphinois (could be made with vegan cheese, or cheese less for vegans?)

Desserts:
Mincemeat crumble pies (mini ones with veggie pastry)
Lemon, prosecco and elderflower sorbet

Any thoughts?

All sounds lush OP, if you aren't doing a bit roast how about some chestnut stuffing on the side (easily vegan)? (I like nuts!)

Where's my invite?

That sounds more appetising than your usual dry turkey roast!

Sounds great! My veggie daughter gets fed up with pasta as the veg option as she can't eat it (coeliac).

I actually do a very tasty 3 layer but roasty thing every Christmas and have to fight everyone else off as it's so tasty and popular - like an extra stuffing for those who eat meat.

You've been very thoughtful.

And get the non-veggies to back off!

This is a wonderful special veggie dish which I also do on special occasions: www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2009/nov/14/crespeou-vegetarian-ottolenghi

Also the bed nest is the side sleeper. And it is banned in America and Canada.

I'm mostly vegan and I'd eat all of that! You can definitely make creamy leeks with soy cream, Alpro single cream is sold everywhere.
Trex vegetable shortening is a great option for the roast potatoes, acts like lard/goose fat. Olive oil isn't good for roasting, has too low a smoke point.

Don't forget that mincemeat isn't veggie.

It’s nearly always veggie. I’ve yet to see a jar of mincemeat that isn’t veggie.

As a vegetarian can I say thank you.
I’m not going to my work Christmas party this year as I’m buggered if I’m paying the same as the meat eaters for the piss poor veggie option.

Also, the Tesco vegan cheese is the best (the grated mozzarella would work well for the cheese straws) but the Red Leicester slices are the worst of the whole range and the only ones I don't buy!

I’m not a veggie but I’d really like to try all of that please. I’ll be round about 1pm Christmas Day if that’s ok

Don't forget the Yorkshire puddings! Can make them vegan too.
Would probably do a potato and chestnut gratain as a main as I find squash based dishes a little light.

Sounds amazing though, wonderful to see a menu with so much thought in it.

It sounds lovely. I'm a veggie and I use a lot of turkish and greek recipes - as many are vegetarian and a bit different from the nut roast type of stuff.

Regarding vegan cheese - I've yet to try one that didn't taste like hell Grin but as you say you could use other savoury flavourings for straws etc. (curry, marmite, herbs etc)

Sounds a lovely (and thoughtful) menu to me. I actually quite like most nut roasts. I like a roast dinner with all the trimmings, just not the meat. We have a mushroom and chestnut Wellington for Xmas lunch, which is delicious.

Actually I'm generally happy with anything that's not pasta or risotto.

Too much pastry. I'm always looking for a meat substitute dish which is not loaded with carbs. Nut roasts are largely breadcrumbs and the meat eaters don't have their meal wrapped in pastry so why should the vegetarians?

I'm not veggie but DH is and that all sounds amazing! I know he'd think it was too.
Those saying mince meat for mince pies aren't veggie - yes, most are veggie but check the ingredients first as some might not be.

(Apart from the mushrooms, but that's just me) that all sounds lovely :)

I'm veggie and each dish sounds lovely to me. One thing though - maybe offer some slightly lighter options ? There are three pastry/bread starters (if the pate comes with bread), two pastry mains and a pastry pud.
