It's slow cooker season in our household. Wondering what you cook in your slow cooker? Share any favourite recipes? Have you thrown a load of stuff in from the fridge and had it turn out amazing and become a favourite recipe?

I'm making the last of a piggybacking meal today. It started with a roast chicken dinner, then I made stock from the carcass and carrots and celery etc, then we had chicken and stuffing sandwiches, then I made a pork stew in the slow cooker using some of the chicken stock and the vegetables from it. Using the last of the stock in another stew today: thrown in the chicken leftovers chopped, six pork and beef sausages, leftover roast veg, leftover gravy, chopped leftover sage and onion stuffing, a small bottle of cider, herbs and spices. No idea what it'll taste like! Will report back!

I love my slow cooker there's a few slow cooker recipe pages on Facebook. "Slow cooker saddos" and "slow cooked wonders" are good groups. You'll be amazed at the sorts of things you can cook in the slow cooker

Will read tft but I'm new to the wonders of the slow cooker so sorry if this is a bit predictable/teaching your mother to suck eggs BUT....
My favourite (I've been experimenting) is my spag bol , tinned tomatoes, grated carrots, mushrooms, onion 2-3x cloves garlic on high for 2.5-3 hours. Hand blender thingy, whizz it all up throw in mince or meatballs 3hours medium. Chuck in low salt stock cube/or some chicken stock (I made my own stock last time and froze it in ice cube trays, four ice cubes was enough)
Ds for the first time ever complimented my cooking that wasn't chips or freezer shite nearly wept with joy, my veggie Dodger got a good whack of his 5 a day and loved it. Off to poach everyone else's recipes now....

Hmm Okay. That got weird.

Ahardman - I've done a Spag Bol similar to yours before and actually it came out as one of my nicer attempts. I think it's because I was rushed for time, literally had 10mins spare to prep the food, and so I had no choice but to blitz up the garlic, onions and carrots in the nutri ninja before adding to the meat in the pot. A few sprinkles of this, a grinding of pepper there, a can of toms, bit of sugar etc, lid on and off I went. Wasn't expecting much when I came back to it but the whizzed veg had melted down and made a really good and tasty sauce. Nice and thick too. I've always fried off onions and base veg, but this time I had no time. I tried hard to taste the difference and I actually couldn't!

I get it mint I'm an animal loving meat eater too. I don't think we have to hate them to eat them Wink I don't eat squirrels or rabbits just 'traditional' meats and I would struggle mightily to kill an animal myself to eat it so I'm a fairly hypocritical meat eater myself. Those squirrels lived the best life: wild and were respectfully wholly utilised, fur and all.

Redken I'll try that but reduce the spice level as DD and I get runny noses if we eat spicy food!

I've been experimenting with spag bol variations and have found the tastiest ones IMO include carrots, celery and wine (white works better than red). I'm also a huge fan of bay leaves: I use them in most of my recipes, which is good as someone gave me a caterers size bag on freecycle so we're working through them Grin when the spag bol has cooked for a good long time I then reduce it in a pan. DD loves it! Nothing more satisfying than seeing your child demolish your home cooked food.

Our two staples to batch cook and freeze are Alex MacKay's ragu and Nigella's Choc Chip Chilli. I can't find the ragu recipe online unless you subscribe to Sainsbury's magazine, I've just realised it's from a 2007 edition! We batch cook both and freeze meal-sized portions flat in freezer bags. They squeeze into corners of the freezer easily then.

Nigella Choc Chop Chilli - we cook as per recipe, then slow cook for 8 hours on low www.mumsnet.com/Talk/food_and_recipes/1105400-Best-chilli-con-carne-recipe-to-serve-over-Christmas-period

We love Chicken Tikka Massala.. easy as pie:

2 sliced onions
2 packs skinless boneless chicken thighs
1 jar cheap pasta sauce
half a jar of tikka masala paste

mix everything in a bowl
chuck into the slow cooker
cook on high for 4 hours.

I usually mix in a bit of cornflour to thicken it up a bit before serving. It is delightful Smile
