Anyone have the Rolls Royce of Rice Cookers?

Grin

A Zojirushi that is. Saw it described as such and was amused by the OTT description. Anyone recommend it and think it's worth the nearly £300 price tag for the new model that makes umami rice?

We eat rice every day and I want a nice one that'll last and not crust the bottom, while staying nice and fluffy for long on the Keep Warm setting. I've been using a Tefal for the last few years and the bottom is almost blackened as the bottom gets all horrible and discoloured if you saute stuff in before adding rice. Rice dries out very quickly too. Have used Japanese rice cookers before and found them to be in a different league. But want to get a nice one this time.

Any opinions on the Zojirushi? Or the YSQ18 specifically.

Mine plays Twinkle Twinkle too! But I miss the steam functionality that other rice cookers have.

Somone bought me the Gino d'thingy one. Worst piece of useless crap ever to grace my worktop. Has completely put me off rice cookers.

Oh and mine sings Twinkle Twinkle little star when you start the cooking. Worth the price just for that Grin

We have a Zojirushi! Smashing. It was bought for us though, not sure I could have brought myself to part with that much cash. We had a two-person rice cooker which we used to death.

What I like it that you can do different quantities, but it always comes out perfectly and never stuck to the bottom. I use it frequently and it does mean that I cook rice far more often than I would otherwise.

Yours looks nice. I don't much like the yellowish colour display on mine. I'm quite excited about making the different types of rice now [sad fool icon].

"compaired"? typotastic

Just noticed you have it now...happy eating!

We recently got this one as we do eat a lot of rice...it's so much better than our old Tefal and has a setting for mixed rice, so no blackened bottom. It's very bells and whistles compaired to our old one, haven't used half the functions yet. But it kicks ass so far. Makes really fluffy rice! Even sticky rice has a much lighter texture.

Thanks for the replies. I had a bit of a surprise as dh had ordered it for me after seeing it on my Amazon wish list! It's not sold on Amazon though, a different company. I am a bit unsure about the colour, on the website it looks like a nice brushed chrome but looks darker in real life, a sort of matt silvery beige almost.

I cook plain rice too 90% of the time Daydreaming. Seen that you can make congee with this one so will be very handy for me since it's Ramadan. Can't wait to try out all the features.

Popbiscuit I made a quick test batch and not only was there no crusting on the bottom but not a single grain stuck to the pan. Put it on your wish list, you might get a surprise like me! Brew Amazon lets you add from other sites.

Oooh...I would LOVE one of those. I have a cheap-as-chips rice cooker that I use all. the. time. It makes a big mess and the bottom crusts but I couldn't live without it...would love to upgrade to the Zojirushi esp. if it doesn't make a huge bloody mess all over my kitchen!
Not helpful, sorry but just wanted to say that I covet one too! I've asked for it as a birthday present; DH thinks I'm mental Grin

I lived in Japan for a while and have always had a japanese rice cooker since then - always a zojirushi - I love them. Can't comment on that model though!!! I always just cook plain rice.
