I am starting up a dvd collection for my ds, and wondered which ones where the most loved by other people's dcs.

Musicals! Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (her favourite) and Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Am recording classics from my childhood she actually sat still and watched The Railway Children over the weekend. We have the Amazing Mr Blunden for the next rainy Sunday we get.

DD also loves My Neighbour Totoro and Ponyo and I am keeping an eye out for the other Studio Ghibli films on TV, Film 4 sometimes show them over a weekend. She hasnt seemed interested in any Disney films apart from 101 Dalmations. I am avoiding Frozen as I dont want her brainwashed.

I would avoid Watership down if your DC likes bunnies Grin

candykane25 · 13/04/2016 11:54

I am worrie about Cruella De Ville, are the 101 Dalmations fans in this thread ok with her?
I am a lightweight though. I watched ET aged about 10 and it traumatised me. I still get irrationally emotional about it!

Thanks for all these replies, everyone Star Flowers

What children find frightening varies so much, candykane. I can absolutely see why a little one would find Cruella scary though. I am always surprised that the 1st Toy Story is so popular, as Sid would probably have scared me as a little girl.

MrsUnderwood · 13/04/2016 19:18

NeedA I watched Hocus Pocus again recently. Bette Midler really gives a commited performance in that!

memyselfandaye · 13/04/2016 19:38

Toy Story 1,2&3
Mr Bean - cartoons and the sitcoms
Sooty
Frozen
Pinnochio
Happy Feet
Home Alone
Bambi
The Santa Clause 1,2&3

Lolly86 · 13/04/2016 19:41

Frozen
Up (I love that too)
Home
I keep playing ratatouille but she won't get interested!! Or Snow White etc but I'm hoping she will in time. She doesn't sit through films she gets bored, 5 minute episodes of Bing she loves! Smile

Voteforpedr0 · 13/04/2016 20:04

The gruffalo
Cars
Mickeys once and twice upon a Christmas
Despicable me 1 2

SomeDayMyPrinceMightCome · 13/04/2016 20:07

The Little Mermaid (music is utterly fab, as it also is in Beauty and the Beast which DD also loves)

Bolt
Mary Poppins
Chitty (only the first half)
The Tinkerbell movies are actually v good.
Robin Hood
Snow White
Sleeping Beauty
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (newer one but again only the first half, it's a bit slow and a bit scary later on)
Tangled (amazing film)
The songs in Bugsy Malone
Cinderella (the new one with Lily James)

We watch a LOT of movies and it's heavily weighted towards Disney here...

She is 3

God, I am Envy. Not one of my 3 DCs had/has the patience for a film of any description. DS1 (7.5) can now sit through a film but would never really choose to, DS2 (5) will only sit through one at the cinema where he can't escape (and will whinge after about 30 mins) and DD (2) lasts about 8 seconds, but will watch Mr fucking Tumble episodes for an hour or more quite happily. Where did I go wrong?

Mary Poppins arrived yesterday. Stuck it on and hallelujah, one riveted 2yr DD! And one riveted 41yr mummy too! It's a cracking film.

LittleCatInAOneBedroomFlat · 15/04/2016 13:46

I haven't seen Mary Poppins in years.

My 2 year old absolutely loves despicable me or minions basically as long as the minions feature!

There is a Thomas the tank engine film she likes too.

Oh and she likes shrek. She wasn't that impressed by cars though or cinderella or alice in wonderland.

KatieKaboom · 15/04/2016 13:54

FUCKING Minions at every FUCKING opportunity.

Jungle Book
Finding Nemo
Madagascar 1/2/3
Toy Story
Lion King
The Croods
Monsters Inc
Monsters University
Minions
Despicable Me
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

and his absolute favourite is Labyrinth but I think that may have more to do with my obsession with David Bowie Grin

VaJayJay · 15/04/2016 15:01

Oh I forgot, he loves the old Disney version of Peter Pan too.

I can't wait to introduce my ds to all these films! Kids' films are one of the perks of parenthood. Smile

craftyoldhen · 16/04/2016 23:02

Don't worry hopefully my 2 year old has never watched a film.

He's still at the Teletubbies and Bing stage.

Most of the films listed on here are things my 8 year old enjoys.
