Coming off Cerazette and starting Sertraline at the same time. Good idea..?

Hi,

I'm working up the courage to start the sertraline I was prescribed nearly a year ago. I've been depressed now for exactly a year (I mean "properly" depressed, with anxiety - I've been general low for years) and thought I was making real progress on my own medication free a couple of months ago, now it seems that suddenly my anxiety is coming back, and I can't control my very dark thoughts I keep having 😥 I'm finding it hard to rationalise things when I have the thoughts.

I'm having Counselling and the other day I told my counsellor my motivation to self harm was a 9/10. She wrote this down but nothing was advised - I feel like Counselling really isn't helping me.

Anyway I rambled a bit there... I've been on cerazette for 5 years and have read some things about how this is linked to depression. So while I have a week off work soon I want to come off this and start sertraline (12.5mg and work up) at the same time

Side effects wise is this a good idea? Has anyone had good experiences of coming off cerazette or other contraception?

Thank you x

Hiya. A pharmacist would be your best bet for information. I'm on sertraline and have had no side effects at all. I know that's probably unusual, but I wanted to reassure you it won't necessarily be side-effect hell when you start :)

Best wishes Flowers
