Can someone talk me through CrossFit?

I’ve been deluding myself that I can self-motivate to get fit and lose weight. I’ve tried Aaptiv, Les Mills On Demand, Kayla, Insanity. I just gone keep it up. I think I need to go somewhere, work hard for an hour or so and go home.

Have previously loved bootcamp style groups and BodyPump. Also like swimming and yoga, and sometimes running. Currently I would struggle to run for more than 15 minutes....

There’s a CrossFit near me so I’m thinking about giving it a go. On the website there is a timetable with lots of slots saying “CrossFit / Open Gym” and they are the sessions I could get to but are they classes or is it just a normal gym session?

What happens at a session?

I’ve signed up for a trial but trying to figure out what it’s all about! Plus a bit worried about being completely out of my depth....

When the trainer passed me a skipping rope I was a bit worried as my pf is not great. I have worn a pad for every session since...

The trainer told me cf is great for improving it.... let’s see.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine if anything I would imagine it would help strengthen your pelvic floor as lots of core work... Lots of pregnant women do CrossFit too - the beauty of it is being based on functional movements that can be scaled to any ability. Seriously if you Google it you can find videos of people with all sorts of disabilities and all ages (70s included) doing it. If you're worried maybe have a word with the coach at your local CrossFit gym.

I'd love to do cross fit, but I'd be worried about further knackering my pelvic floor?

Ok so I’ve done the trial session and 3 PT sessions to learn some moves. Then I can be let loose in classes! I think it’s just what I need to be honest.

Only problem is I’ve been ravenous since starting it. And very tired. Need to sort out diet and sleep the hopefully I’ll be in good shape in no time!!

CrossFit is tough! A 4 minute session made me sick 😂 but I’d joined in with ultra fit people and tried to keep up.

@6monthsin how did you get on? I started CrossFit about two months ago and absolutely love it. Haven't set foot in a gym for about 15 years but knew I needed to do something so gave it a go as I liked the idea of it being coached. I'm now totally addicted and get edgy when I can't go because of eg school holidays and kids at home.

I love the fact it's all mixed up - I don't look at the WOD before I arrive so I can't be put off going - and always leave on a massive high. Hope you're enjoying it!

All the sessions vary, but they will usually involve a combination of weightlifting/gymnastics (pull ups etc)/cardio. If you Google for some sample CrossFit workouts you'll see examples of what you might do. Open gym means you can go in and use the equipment to do your own thing, rather than being coached.

Every class throughout the day will do the same workout, but everyone will scale it to their own level. If you like "we're all in it together" style classes you'll enjoy it, probably not the thing for people who like to put their headphones in and focus. Usually lots of cheering from everyone else, very supportive environment

There's a whole other language to learn and you can be months in and still asking what's a SDLHP/HSPU AMRAP WOD Grin People say it's a cult... They're not wrong lol. My gym is my family! Enjoy your trial, you should quickly get an idea of whether the style of training is for you, if the coaches know their stuff, and what the community's like etc

If you like bootcamp, think you'll love it.

Open gym is you doing your own thing.

Classes are classes. All workouts can be scaled. There might be very fit people there but no mirrors & no-one will be worrying about other people. Usually a community aspect too & nutrition advice too.

Go along & see. Bit of lifting & then a workout usually.

All boxes are different but hopefully the coaching will be good.

Cf saved my life. But I take it fairly easy & look after myself. I was morbidly obese when I accidentally fell into a class, I'm sure you'll be fine. (-:

I go to a gym that has crossfit on the other side (I do the classes not crossfit)
I will say OP that if you loved bootcamp, I am sure you will be fine in Crossfit. It's very similar style from what I can see.
They are really good at building your fitness up, so your 15 minutes would rapidly improve! And suitable for all fitness levels they advertise where I am.
I hope you enjoy it, and well done for signing up!
