Okay, now I have reached 5k (on treadmill) and have a runners waterbottle when running outside. I use my phone for listening to music. I use a bumbag for carrying the phone in when running outside. Is there anything else that would be useful? What do people listen to music on? (I have never owned an mp3 player etc but happy to try).

Good running shoes
Shock Absorber 'Run' bra
Leggings
Running tops (once had horrible chaffing under arms from seams on normal top)
For winter - a wide headband thing that keeps ears warm but top of head cool
And also high-vis bib if going out early morning or dusk - I live in rural area with no pavements or street lamps. Dog also has hi-vis collar for this purpose!

I've badly sprained ankle and unlikely to be running for 8-12 weeks, am feeling a little bit Sad.

The good thing about running is that, apart from decent shoes/socks, you don't really need anything. I have cheap running shorts from sports direct (or 3/4 length tights for when it is cold in winter), regular cotton t-shirt, properly fitted shoes and decent socks.

When I started running I used to take an i-pod (try cex.co.uk for older models second hand) and I have also tried various items of specialist running shirts/jackets/gloves etc but found little benefit.

I take a drink with me on longer runs, but can't be bothered carrying one on shorter distances, so I just have a big drink before I set off.

Before that I had a cheapy MP3 player which was fine too and smaller for running. A bit like this

I have a arm holder for my iPod, but tuck my MP3 player in my cleavage in my sports bra!

For me and my rubbish joints - knee and ankle supports are essential Confused Insole supports are also good and useful for anyone really.

Just look at amazon at cost of ipod. Out of my budget. What is good and a lot cheaper to listen to music on?

What holds your ipod to your body?

Decent trainers and an iPod!

Can't run without music on.

I also like to wear running leggings/cropped trousers as I don't like anything flapping around my calves. And sleeveless tops as I get so sweaty.

I also have running shoes. I run on the treadmill steadily sometimes increasing to 9.5 but trying to stay at 8 - 8.5. Is there a particular method I should follow?
