Jab after effects timing

Hi, can anyone tell me the sort of timeframe I can expect if I’m going to suffer after effects from the jab?

I’m a teacher, have my jab on Wednesday at 4pm and it would be impossible to do anything about it if I was to start feeling rough part way through Thursday...

I don't understand this. If you were at work on a normal Thursday and suddenly came down with sickness, high temp or chills what would you do?
Just do that. The amount of stressing that some people are putting into going for a jab is quite incredible. Literally thread after thread of people wanting to know timeframes of when they might get a side effect, how long it will last etc and trying to plan for days around something that probably won't even happen.
Just go get your jab, if you feel fine the next day, go to work, if you feel unwell phone in sick, if you take unwell at work follow the same procedure that you would under any other circumstances.

I think the reality and logistics of being ill on a normal teaching day are possibly lost on you, @rainbowunicorn. With thirty teens at a time in front of you for six hours it’s not that easy to just decide you’re jibbing off halfway through a lesson, or to pull someone out of your arse to cover for you (and leave meaningful and resourced cover work).

In a genuine emergency, emergency provision can be made.

But as you can see from the responses here, there seems to be a statistically high chance of feeling ropey.

@LividJabber no, not lost on me at all. I worked in education for two decades. If you take unwell enough to need to go home / not go into work then it is irrelevant what the cause of that illness is. It is your employers responsibilty to provide cover at short notice if needed. I am not saying that they will be able to get a specialist subject teacher at such short notice. All that is needed is a suitable adult in the classroom supervising. One afternoon of doing supervised revision won't harm the pupils.
Why make it your problem when you have bosses who are paid to deal with things like this.
If one of my team came to me as their manager and said they were unwell it would be very inconvenient. As their manager I would not expect them to care about that if unwell. It is my responsibility to sort out the logistics, not theirs.

Has anyone had their second dose of AZ yet?

OP I am also a teacher and know that it is school's responsibility to arrange emergency cover if required and you became suddenly so ill after your jab that you couldn't work

Had AZ at around 6pm yesterday. Took paracetamol before and last night and just had an achy arm until mid afternoon today. Then got the hot to the touch cheeks, no temp, feeling a bit knackered and hungover. Arm still tender and achy.
I’m going to bed now.

I had my vaccine (AZ) at about noon.

By the evening I was starting to get chills and had a mild fever. Next day I was extremely tired and spent most of the day asleep in bed.

Day after that, I was back to normal energy levels, but my arm was very sore where I’d been jabbed. It was too sore to sleep on for the best part of a week, but not so bad that I needed to take painkillers.

I had AZ. Weirdly I had two 'waves' of symptoms. 24 hours of flu symptoms exactly 24 hours after the jab, and a further 24 hours of dizziness and mild headache six days later.

@YukoandHiro

Has anyone had their second dose of AZ yet?

There's a thread about it somewhere on the Covid board. Everyone saying they had no side effects at all after the second, so fingers crossed!

Everyone is different, there’s no rhyme or reason to it.
I had the Astra Zeneca, no side effects whatsoever. My jabberGrin told me to take it easy the day I got jabbed and I’d feel a bit rough for three days. Most of my work colleagues felt rough the next day, including sickness, headache, flu symptoms all carried on working (apart form one who felt truly awful). Early nights all round.
