DD is 4 and in Reception. She came home last week and told me there was going to be a show and all the girls were going to be angels and the boys were going to be 'chefs' - love the idea of a nativity scene with lots of small boys wearing big white hats!

Do you mean you have never heard of that well-known Christmas nativity character - the chef? Joined in ds's nativity play one year by a group of those other well-known Christmas characters - the cowboys! I suppose they have to get all the kids on stage somehow!

"And lo, on the next day did three COWBOYS appear, and did say unto Mary "Howdy, ma'am, ah bin hearin' you give birth to the dang son o'Gawd. Well, darn' tootin' an' holey moley." And the COWBOYS did render unto the baby Jesus gifts of a lasso, a buffalo and a stetson. And lo, it was good."

Reminds me of the scene in Love Actually where Emma's Thompson's daughter comes home and tells her mum that she's going to be 2nd Lobster in the school nativity play, to which Emma Thompson asks 'You mean there was more than one lobster at the birth of Baby Jesus?'

DD has informed me that she's head of the guards for the princess, as the baddies are all trying to kill her, but Jesus comes in at the end and kills everyone instead, then takes the baby, who's fast asleep because he spent all night watching for him... then Jesus watches a movie with Mary.

I can't wait!

Love Actually has one of my fave quotes of all times, when Hugh Grant goes to find Martine McC and her mum tells him about the trouble she's had making the little brother's nativity octopus costume:

"Eight IS a lot of arms, David..."

Actually this thread has just made me quite sad Last year was my last nativity for a while until the DCs make me a grandmother (which I do hope won't be too soon)

Apparently DD is the navigator for her nativity play!!! You know the one that tells the story

I hope the inkypatoo doesn't tell the shepherds to f**k off this year

mum didn't know but dad had given him the changed script
everyone laughed, except mum, who left in tears
