Never made one before but suddenly really want to and have time do it one at the weekend. But have I left it too late?

IIRC I only massed with it to the extent of adding more of marsala/brandy/whatever - mostly because I was on an economy drive and using cheap fruit so I soaked it all overnight in booze of some description.

Thank you! My friend made me a cake last year ad it was amazingly moist due to the addition of chestnut puree so I may try adding a bit of that in too.

Nigella's recipe got rave reviews last year when I made gift cakes for lots of people (I think I may have messed with it a bit, though )

I hope Nigellas domestic goddess recipe is ok because I've used it! Cake certainly looks ok and smells gorgeous

I used that recipe last year thehouseofmirth and it went down very well. I don't eat the stuff but everyone that did said it was gorgeous. This year I'm using Nigella's recipe from her christmas book. Again the first one I've made looks lovely.

Hi there!
Have my 1st Christmas cake in the oven as I write! Was also overtaken by a need to make one for the first time - smells gorgeous, but have no idea how it will taste! Have used the Delia one recommended on here - but am dreading icing it.

Ooh fab! thank you.

OK Supplementary question then; is the recipe in How to be A Domestic Goddess any good?

Not at all. I'm in the middle of making mine, normal ones that need to be fed too. I've got 4 to make, only 1 down so far Doing the 2nd one tommorrow.

The smell of baking christmas cake is divine.
