We just have all colours, every year. We decorate 3 rooms downstairs but not the kitchen and definitely not bedrooms.
Its generally what we have collected over the years and the place is a bit Santa's grotto. Its not for long though. Ours go up around the 14th and come down New Years Day as xmas was last year. I can't stand them up in January, lol.
I think it would be quite expensive to change colours every year and time consuming. But each to their own.

Ooohhh im glad to hear that I'm not the only one thinking about christmas already! I love making my own garlands with holly, ivy, dried oranges, ribbon, pine cones etc. the smell is divine! I have two trees each year one that is very traditional with all kids decorations and the other in the kitchen which has a pink, gold and maroon theme!

the themes in different rooms works well. I do traditional (snowmen, little Father Christmases, brass bells, fabric stockings and candy canes) on the fir swags on the bannister with white lights.

Then usually red/gold on the mantlepiece, candles, and one of those draping mantel covers -red/gold.
The tree has white lights and all the glass baubles.

The dining room/sitting room has fir swags in the dividing 'arch' with either gold/bronze or silver/glass.
Then the other colour on the upstairs bannister.
But I move them round each year, it's mainly safety that is the factor (glass away from the DC)

But it works well, one theme into another.

And my collection grows every year.
I've bought some lovely gold/olive green glass baubles from Costco for this year.

Red and gold in the lounge and a mix of Scandinavian and gingerbread themed in the kitchen.

I really want to start silver in the hall and landing but is that just too many themes?

We put our decorations up the first weekend of december. I love cinnamon sticks and dried oranges, its just so pretty.

I like Traditional. We make most of our decorations so holly from the garden, dried oranges and cinnamon sticks, fircones, paperchains etc. We also do saltdough decorations and ginger cookies. I've been collecting traditional Christmas decorations, particularly Victorian for a couple of years now. I like my house to look like a scene out of Shirley Hughes' Lucy and Tom's Christmas.

We have red white and green on the tree in the front room and the decorations match.

In the dining room with have silver and teal on tree and all decorations and table settings match.

Would quite like a change this year but don't have the time to redecorate.

My children decide as they make all the decorations and they decorate the tree! we also have hand me downs from my Nan & my Mum. Home made things and lots of memories on a real tree is what Christmas is all about in our house.......oh and fairy lights, loads of them

I just pull out last years decorations and put them up again. But, but, but... as a little sewing practice on my new machine I have made a garland of denim stars from ds's old battered jeans, and put red buttons and little bells on them and was momentarily thinking they looked a bit Christmassy and should I cut up the rest of his jeans and make matching stars for the Christmas trees :o
