How ridiculous. Just imagine what it would be like to go through life with a name like that. There's unusual and UNUSUAL.

I'm not keen - so many nicer plants and flowers to choose from, why name your child after a weed that stings people?

I really like Nettle as a name. I have no idea why, as it's not what you'd choose to name your children after, but actually I think it sounds great!

Oh yes Sorrel is really nice - I knew there was a name like that I was trying to think of.

My Granny was called Lettice - note the 'ice' ending though!! My third daughter has it as a second name so she doesn't have to admit to it if she doesn't want to! But I do know of a little called called Lettice, nicknamed Letty - very sweet I think.

What about Sorrel - quite unusual just heard about it the other day? Waves to NAO - now we know! Still want to know what the first one was though .

Something like Willow or Rowan or yes, Briar would be better than Nettle.

It's just not a very nice plant and the word means "annoy" which isn't great. Also it doesn't sound nice at all. Please don't do it.

Nettie is good Nettle is not. DO NOT NAME YOUR CHILD NETTLE, please!

Report
Sidge · 31/08/2009 22:14

Nettle???!!!

Oh dear lord no. No. NO!

How about Briar?

If you really want to call a child Nettle at least call her Henrietta and use Nettle as a nickname.

Don't like Nettle, sorry.
My friend named her daughter Lettice, which I also think is a bit odd

Hee hee, very funny, Nettle! Is your second name tea?

I always think of a few famous people and wonder how they would sound with the name I am contemplating....

Nettle Thatcher

Queen Nettle

Nettle Reagan

Nettle Beckham

Lady Nettle Parker Bowels

Nettle Kidman?..

I am being silly now, sorry. Still funny though.

I could say it's truly awful but that seems somehow inadequate. Please don't. It really is that bad.

i quite like the sound of the word 'nettle'. but i think the meaning and connotation is really important too. and the fact that a nettle is a weed is not a great connotation for a child. (unwanted, in the wrong place)
i read about a famous couple (can't remember who) who called their daughter dandelion and as soon as she could she changed it to angela.
i think its kind of a pretty sounding name, but the fact that it is a weed is really not good.
