Juliet for a girl?

I love this name for a girl but I am worried it is a bit unusual and people will think I am mad. Any opinions?

I love it too, but DP wasn't keen on it.

My friend is Julia, and it amazes me when people call her Julie (even her own dad quite a lot)...can people just not hear the 'a'??

If this baby turns out to be a girl she will be called Juliet, no question about it.

It's a beautiful name and every time I hear it, or see it written down I feel my heart skip.

My daughter is Juliette, and I've never had anything other than very positive reactions to it.

Occasional mentions of "where's romeo, ha ha" but not enough to be annoying.

Ooh, actually, when she got a boyfriend in our final year, from our brother school, his surname began with an 'R' and he did get called Romeo R-surname. [grin}

I went to school with a Juliet, and she was never called Julie - why would she be, it's not her name - and was never teased for the R&J connection. Admittedly we went to an all girls' school.

I also know a 3 year old Juliette. It's a nice name - I don't understand what's to hate about it.

I told my mum politely that she had 3 children (me and my siblings) and named us all. Now I'm having my own children, the name choice is up to me and my DH... She still tells me that she doesn't like it

Yeah, Blanchet the Romeo and Juliet thing is a bit of an irk for me! Some people I've said Juliet to immediately say something about Romeo! It annoys me a bit at people's ignorance that Juliet seems to be the only female Shakespeare name that people single out for teasing. I don't hear much of Bianca's or Katherine's getting teased, and so I don't think Juliet's should get teased either.

I like Julia also, but Juliet works better with our surname. Both are nice feminine names, so don't see why people don't like them!

I think it's great. At the moment I'm torn between Juliet and Julia. Agree with what a previous poster said about preferring the classic spelling, not the exta te version.
Mistake for your mum to give her honest opnion I think. I keep talking names over with my mum and I feel I want her to say names she likes but I can't bear her to say outright anything that she doesn't like, IYSWIM. Even though I 'm not doing it to please her I know I will feel annoyed with her if she doesn't like the name I chose, but will feel annoyed with myself for not chosing a name because she doesn't like it!

Oops, didn't see it was a resurrected thread. Maybe there are polar ideas because some people see it as too 'Romeo and Juliet'? I'm surprised that people are telling you they hate it!

I'm resurrecting this thread! Last post was almost a year ago!

My DC1 is due in 3 weeks and if it's a girl (we still don't know what sex it is) we've picked the name Juliet as myself and DH love it.

When I tell people the name they either look at me in silence, tell me outright that they hate it, or say that it's nice.

My mum tells me constantly how much she dislikes it

Why do you think there are such polar ideas to such a simple name?

Beautiful. If this baby was a girl we were considering Francesca Juliet.

It's a great name that everyone's heard of, but isn't used very often. I love the literary connotations and that it isn't overly girly.

My Mum and I were discussing this the other day and both agreed it is really lovely. I don't really link it in my head to Julie or Julia (neither of which I am drawn to strangly!). Go for it!

My youngest is a Juliette and is a Joolz if shortened. I thought that we were being clever and picking something that wasn't common yet not unusual. Then the health visitor said that our's was the third in the village that year!
