Thoughts on Kasia? It’s a Polish name that comes from the Polish version of Catherine. How would you pronounce it, and where are you from?

II’d say Kasha, I think. From the UK.

I would guess either kah zee uh or kasha. Am English.

I'd wait for the parent/child to tell me. It's short so it's bound to be easy, even if the pronunciation isn't typically English.

Kashuh - I am in the UK, watched BBC news with Kasia Madera who was particularly visible during the invasion of Ukraine last year. I recall thinking that it was a nice name!

Kasia rhymes with Sasha and is the name of one my best friends. I can tell you from her bitter experience that very few people know how to pronounce it but I love it nevertheless. I also love Zosia.

Kash ah because I know a Polish woman with that name. I also know a very lovely Gosia pronounced Gosh ah.

I’m Polish and lived in the UK for 5+ years. I have a Polish name very similar to Kasia and I always envy my partner who has a more ‘common’ English name. It makes it more difficult in a professional and social setting because people don’t know how to pronounce my name (you’d be surprised at different variations even though it’s just 2 syllables!!) and I think many people struggle to remember it when I introduce myself. Also, ‘Kasia’ should be really pronounced with a soft ‘sha’ which simply doesn’t exist in English, so your name is never pronounced as it ‘should be’. I’m not offended at all or anything like that, really doesn’t bother me, it’s just a name, but I just sometimes wish I had a more ‘common’ name :). Whenever I order food/coffee etc. I always give one of common English names to make life easier. Maybe just something to consider!

Kasha, but I live in Birmingham where there are lots of Katarzynas. Before I lived here I'd have guessed at "Cassia" but it's not difficult to grasp once you've been told once! It's a lovely name, go for it!

I would say ca see ah too. I wiykd be cautious giving a name to a child thst people are going to mispronounce. It will be extremely annoying.

I also give an alternative name when ordering coffee, food, etc (Irish name here), but I don't think that's uncommon even among people with Anglo names. There are lots of jokes on the internet about the mangling of names by food and beverage servers (see 'My name is Ian and I hate Starbucks').

Without the guidance above I would have said cass ee ah , as I’ve never seen/heard the name before and that would be my best shot . Mind you I make a lot of calls for work and spend half of them attempting the name and following it up with “ I’m so sorry if I mispronounced that “ .

It's lovely, but a) very common in Polish circles (if that matters to you!) and b) definitely a diminutive rather than a full name, generally.
