Really like the name Florence but HATE Flo (Aunt Flo association) Is Flo avoidable or will people just call her it anyway?

Our Florence is 4.5 and has never been called Flo (yet) however before she was born I would have been horrified by it, now I wouldn't mind, it would actually suit her.

sycamore54321 I am Irish as well and don't think any of the nicknames sound vulgar, what do they remind you of?

If you want to choose a nn, I'd go with Flora. I knew a Florence who was commonly known as Poppy!

Nearly all of the nicknames sound like vulgar slang to my Irish ears. Could you use the name Flora or Fleur instead?

No. Ours gets Florence or (from close family) Florrie. Another shortening (not used by us) is Flossie.

We've managed over 6 years without Flo.

My Florence gets mostly Florence, Flossie, Flora, Lola or cakeface ;). Never Flo but I don't mind it

Possibly not if you make it clear from the start that her name is Florence not Flo - BUT I think if you hate Flo, Florence isn't the best choice.

I don't think Flo is inevitable at all. Flossie is much nicer.
