Aethelstan is an old Saxon name. There was at least one king called that, a grandson of Alfred the Great, IIRC.

I climbed with a guy called Nevada. Yes, that was his real name.

Grin. We are expecting triplets at the moment. Don't know what we're having at the moment, but DS (aged 8) has named them Burt, Derek and Mildred.

I was at school with an Athelstan. Stan for short. I thought it was weird at the time, but I like it now.

Gary is pretty rare these days too. Gary Prendergast Smith has a nice ring to it.

Zanzibar? I think it'd be a great name for a future explorer.
Jupiter - God of thunder and lightening.
Nebuchadnezzar.
Horace.
I met a toddler called Alan the other day. You don't see many Alans these days.

My 2yo likes the name Jumpy if we have a boy.

Seeing as we are in the era of anything goes, I would say a name like Nigel, Roger, Gaylord, Derek or Herman would be unusual.

Might not be what you are looking for, mind.
