It's a girl!!! Come and help with my list?

MyNameIsSuz · 21/10/2015 20:22

I'm twenty weeks with my second and found out yesterday we're having a girl!! We already have a DS and struggled so much with boy names (we went into hospital with a shortlist and ended up with Franklin, which wasn't even on the long list) we thought we'd have an easier time with a girl. But even though we like a lot of the same names we have very different favourites and I think we'll struggle to agree on the one.

So, here are both of our lists combined (for fairness) and not in order of preference, comments and further suggestions very welcome!

Margot
Cecilia
Cadence
Lucille
Sylvie
Delilah
Violet
Lydia

Do your worst! Grin

Margot and Delilah! Some excellent choices there, OP.

Cadence is the rhythm soldiers march in, not a tiny little girl.

Margot - lovely, very 'now'.
Cecilia - not my cup of tea. Sounds prissy
Cadence - sounds like the of name some irritating Disney child star
Lucille - quite like it but can imagine it being quite marmite
Sylvie - like but prefer Sylvia
Delilah - the song would follow her like a curse
Violet - like
Lydia - like

I like them all except Cadence (I didn't know it was a name - to me it is the speed you spin your pedals when cycling!)

Sylvie & Margot are a bit 'of the moment' than the others if that bothers you

Lucille & Cecilia are my favourites

I like Lydia at a push, but there are a fair few of them where I live. Not keen on the others.

I have a Cecilia, she is 2 and everyone calls her Cece. The song is very very rarely sung to her!

I have never met another Cecilia (apart from my nan who she is named after) and everyone always says what a lovely name it is.

I like quite a few on your list. We must have similar taste:

Margot - love it.

Cecilia - Meh. I much prefer Celia.

Cadence - no, hate it. Very American sounding and a bit 'over earnest' as well, if you know what I mean.

Lucille - I initially thought I disliked it, but it's growing on me a bit. I can imagine a girl with a quirky personality rocking it.

Sylvie - lovely. My favourite about 8 years ago, but has been getting more popular in the last few years.

Delilah - Nope.

Violet - Lovely, but quite popular.

Lydia - love it.

Violet is nice, but popular because of the Dowager. How about Sybil? She was the nicest.
Or Keziah? Franklin and Keziah sounds nice.

Margot - not keen at all. Mary, Maria or Margaret are nicer, imo
Cecilia - quite like it. Also like Cecily and Celia
Cadence - really like it. But I do like the American thing. Also like the musical thing and agree Cadie is a very cute nn
Lucille - don't like this at all. I think it has an unpleasant sound.
Sylvie - quite like it. Prefer Sylvia with Sylvie as a nn
Delilah - not keen. Maybe it's the why, why, whyyyy thing, I don't know
Violet - quite like it
Lydia - quite like it

I read a book recently where the main character was called Elodie. ( pronounced like Melody without the M) Absolutely love the name, and so different. Also like Edie. (But then I had boys...)

Lydia and Violet are gorgeous. Your other names I'm very 'meh' about except Sylvie because she is a 60 year old school secretary

I x-posted with fraggle. I see the chlamydia thing was covered by her.

Cadence really stands out as a sort of American, faddy type name in an otherwise classical list. I'd strike it from the list completely.

Lydia I have never liked. I don't know if it's the fact that I most associate it with the petulant Bennett from Pride and Prejudice. I don't like the sound of it though. It sounds like a medical condition in the same vein as chlamydia. Maybe that's it, it contains all the letters in order. It's probably just a weird personal reaction to it.

Margot, Cecelia and Sylvie are lovely.

My niece is a Delilah and she gets biblical whore references or people bawling Tom Jones.

Would you consider Josephine? I adore it and couldn't use it as we ended up with a DS and it didn't suit him.
