Bit of a mash up between mine and DHs preferences, surname Cavendish. Middle name likely to be Juliet (not fussed about whether it goes with the FN as I barely use DDs FN amd MN together). DD is Meg (just Meg) if that helps with the critiquing:

Erin
Kate
Olive
Liv
Ivy
Matilda
Evelyn (could I use this without the inevetable Evie nn?)
Petra
Lilian
Nora
Orla
Robyn
Iris
Ruby

Sorry......its not that short yet!

I do love "just" Tilda - but someone said it was a brand of rice which has swayed me.

I live in an area populated with Eva, Ava, Evie, Aoifa etc so I really dont want to add to that - Evelyn will have to go off the list.

Had Liv on the list from dds birth but didnt feel brave enough to use it. When she was about three months oldI got chatting to a lady with a newborn called Liv and I dont think she beleived me when I said Id nearly used it.

I live in the north east, and name choices err on the sides of either Safe or American. Neither of which I am keen on.

Love Erin. Was my other name for dd1. Went for an Irish name she hates and people always get wrong. She loves Erin as well

soontobeslendergirl · 06/06/2014 13:40

I've bought Tilda rice but I never made the connection at all. The only connection i would make is to Tilda Swinton which is fine. I certainly wouldn't be put of by the rice thing at all. It's not like it is a brand of condoms or something and children wouldn't make the connection either.

HenI5 · 06/06/2014 13:50

Imagine writing a card and signing off
'ThinkIve, Mr ThinkIve, Meg and ........'

I'd choose Petra. I like the sound of Petra Cavendish, nothing wrong with the initials PJC and you need a slightly longer name than Meg for balance i.e.
Meg and Liv -v- Meg and Petra

I also like Iris and Robyn too even though I'd tend to avoid the two initials IC and RC for obvious reasons that they seem like words in their own right Grin

squoosh · 06/06/2014 13:53

Cavendish is such a cool surname by the way, I think a simple name will work best with it.

squoosh · 06/06/2014 13:54

Kate Cavendish does have a lovely ring to it.

Montsti · 06/06/2014 14:04

I've never heard of the brand, Tilda. As someone lose said it's not as if it's a condom brand or something equally embarrassing.

Go with Tilda or Kate - both go really well with Meg and Cavendish!

Mrsindecision · 06/06/2014 14:10

Kate sounds lovely with surname and sounds great with Meg.

nasara · 06/06/2014 16:17

I agree - Kate is the best choice - it goes well with your last name and with Meg.

findingherfeet · 06/06/2014 16:24

Lovely names, prefer Ivy and Evelyn but then I like nn Evie.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 06/06/2014 16:36

Dh will be pleased that Kate is getting such a good response, and it really does go well with Meg and Surname.

I worry that if I shout Meg....Tilda!! In the park someone will think ive just named two kids half Matilda each Grin

I like Olive best and use the nn Liv

Olive is the little girl in Little Miss Sunshine for me!
I'm an 80's child so no 'on the buses' connotations for me. I watched Popeye as a child but my children wouldn't have a clue who Olive Oil is!!!

Pebbles0934 · 06/06/2014 18:06

Also I don't think Evelyn will get Evie. Maybe just Eve? However, I know a Caitlyn who is never shortened?

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 06/06/2014 18:08

Im an eighties girl too, so ive no idea who Olive on the buses is and I refuse to google her incase it puts me off Grin

I really like Erin, Matilda, Evelyn, and Robyn.

I think you could avoid "Evie" for Evelyn, particularly if you pronounce it "EV-lynn" rather than "EVE-lynn. I think you would struggle more with Lillian not being a "Lily" because it's literally the first two syllables and people would drop the "an" out of laziness.

I have a friend in her mid-twenties called Orla and she used to get called "Oral" at school...

My favourites are Petra, Matilda and Iris.

RabbitSaysWoof · 06/06/2014 19:23

Liv is my fave!!
Also like Nora a lot.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 06/06/2014 20:29

Ahh bloody hell, there she is. She looks like Steven Merchant in drag Grin

soontobeslendergirl · 06/06/2014 20:39

lol - you need to see clips as she was a clarty cow as well and not the sharpest knife in the drawer :)

Notso · 06/06/2014 20:49

I don't like Evelyn, Petra, Lillian or Orla.

I quite like Erin, Nora and Ruby.

I love Kate, Olive, Ivy, Matilda, Robyn And Iris, they were all on my lists except Kate as one is close family but DH vetoed all except Matilda.
I LOVE Meg, that was also on my list. I think Kate sounds great with Meg, but all those names are great, good taste OP.

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/06/2014 00:51

Love Petra and Evelyn (though Evie is probably inevitable).

Not fussed on the rest

SelectAUserName · 07/06/2014 04:26

I don't like Olive, Ivy, Nora or Lilian.

Bit meh on Liv and Ruby.

I like Erin, Kate, Petra (this is growing on me a lot), Orla, Robyn and Iris.

I love Matilda and Evelyn.

ashesandfire · 07/06/2014 08:50

Erin - love it
Kate - can't go wrong, sounds great with dd
Olive - oil/Oyl. Nooooo
Liv - don't like this as a stand alone name
Ivy - OK, think it is getting popular
Matilda - like it, don't think it works with Meg. Like the other suggestion of Tilda/Tilly though! Meg and Tilly -cute!
Evelyn (could I use this without the inevetable Evie nn?) - lovely, it WILL become Evie though.
Petra - no, just no
Lilian - I find this quite ugly
Nora - too old lady
Orla - oral.
Robyn - not really my thing, but I quite like it
Iris - meh
Ruby - meh.

Erin, Kate, Robyn, and Tilly would be my faves.
