Peter?

I like it. I think it's one of those names that hides in plain sight, so to speak. Everyone knows it, but I don't know many who are called it. I also don't mind the nn Pete, and there are a lot of names that put me off b/c of the nn possibilities (I like Christopher but not Chris, Thomas but not Tom, etc.)

The only thing that worries me is that here (don't know about there) it's a minor euphamism (sp?) for penis. So...

Anyway, not pregnant, so it's not an urgent question. I'm just getting my ducks in a row for next time! :)

It's a bit 50's. Don't know any under 45 tbh.

I love it and would have used it if it hadn't been a problem with our surname (and we hadn't had a girl).

My nephew is Peter, he's 29 now and I don't recall him ever having any problems with the penis jokes, though I thought it was a common euphemism. I can't say I ever particularly liked or disliked it, as a 13-year-old at the time he was born,I thought it was just OK.
And he's always been Peter in the family, only his mates call him Pete.

I hate Pete though.
Okay if it's his mates calling him it for quickness sake, but I personally am going to call my Peter 'Peter'.

I love it Smile
On my list as well, although I'm not sure I want such classic boys names.

I love it, my top choice boy's name, which I am sad I will never get to use as I am having a girl. Simple and classic!

'Tis my Dad's name and he's a stand up bloke Smile I dont see how its any different to William or James etc, nice solid regular name... now if thats not your bag then obviously its not really going to be a winner is it!

Great name. Such a refreshing change from all the surnamey boys names doing the rounds at the moment.

Not so keen on Peter but there are some wonderful character names on the Horrid Henry web site - www.horridhenry.me ... how about Ralph???

daimbardiva · 08/03/2011 10:51

I'm indifferent about it I'm afraid

It might just be a States thing...it's not the same as naming your kid "Dick" or anything, but it's there. Sigh...

I like names that don't date and that just sound like regular, stand-up guys. :) (Jack, Will etc.) We have a Sam. The reason Peter's on my radar is because of Peter Bishop from Fringe, honestly. Blush

I find it a bit dull. There again unlikely to be picked on or singled out due to having an unusual name. Never heard of the penis connection tbh.

Underachieving · 07/03/2011 22:27

Very sweet name,I'd use it if it didn't clash with partners surname.

Never heard the penis thing before and with Peters in the family and the kind of family where "fuck off" is a greating and "shit face" is a term of endearment then if it were common I would have expected to have heard it.
