mouln rouge esque isnt a type of dance tho it? That is promiscuous agree and not suitable for children.Proper well taught street dance isnt promiscuous or has any more attitude than stage dance. Ive seen some excellent street dancer who ooze talent but they also do other forms of dancing and they all complment each other

i am an ex-dancer and have to disagree, shatteredmumsrus.

if dance is just dance, would you let your five year old learn moulin-rouge-esque routines?

twas on that thing take a bow, where cutesie little peeps from around the country showcase their cheerleading/tapdancing/acrobatics/streetdancing etc.

The children may not understand it but the attitude and poses still reek of early sexualisation. It plugs into an entire culture my dd is not ready for. Any wonder I don't like High School Musical either.

I am afraid my 5-year old dd will stick with ballet as well.

I am a dancer and attitude is part of the dance. its character and stage acting, please dont think of it as any more than that.

YABU it is dancing and exercise. How can that be bad?Get with it, would you rather they slobbed around playing computer games. its an excellent hobby, great for co ordination and socialising.

but it is only not innocent to those who choose to see it as such.

To 5 year olds, it is part of a dance, nothing more. It only becomes provokitive if we allow it to be such, no?

Is this Boogie Beebies? It's usually lovely, all about pretending you're a dinosaur and stuff.

What concerned me about the cbeebies dancers were the poses they adopted. It was more than a dance, it was an attitude and one which was not innocent or fun. I did not need to have a 5-year old give me a knowing look.

I can see how learning to dance (even street) is great. Just wonder why the 'tude?

Oh gosh, I do know what HSM is then! Although mine only have one dvd and have only watched it a couple of times on the laptop, so I've not seen it. I shall remanin blissfully ignorant of Hana Montana then!

janiete....be totally and utterly grateful you do not know all about hannah montana and HSM (high school musical).......I sometimes feel braindead the amount of times it is on in my house, especially this week with me being deathly ill (in a pathetic man-flu way), and all the rain.......

and yes mrsdisapproving....the world does still turn even if you are unreasonable

ok, so maybe it's not the street dancing i think is not appropriate, it's the moves? you're putting it much better than me janeite, thanks

No - I agree with you. It ISN'T what street dancing is about - and the dancing is so much more effective without it.

Don't know what Hanah Montana or HSM are, sorry.

well mine don;t 'crotch grab'!

no need for crotch grabbing in street, and if you have seen it on one dance, please don;t assume that it is in all street dancing.

but if you are concerned about what it looks like on teenies, have you not seen the bollywood dancing (wrong name I am sure but have no idea on the right name....sorry).....that is all hip wiggling and belly rolling, and I have seen that on cbeebies (or used to....not had cbeebieds on in yonks, tis all hannah montana and HSM nowadays). it does not make me think it should not be done, or shown.....it is a form of dance, that is all.

IMHO

ditto - i think it is wonderfully athletic, spectacular, funky and entertaining - but it should be done by children who are old enough to have an awareness of possible connotations within the routines.
