AIBU?

to think that if I shared an explicit picture of myself with a stranger and then they used that to blackmail to release client information, I would be sacked?

I guess people know what we are talking about.

William Wragg: Jeremy Hunt praises MP's apology over dating app incident - BBC News

If you send an explicit picture of yourself to a stranger, you are asking for danger.

If I did that and I was blackmailed into releasing personal information on other people, I would be sacked,

But hey, it's an accident. Nothing to see here.

And as for MPs who then were contacted by a stranger and then sent their own explicit pictures, what is there to say?

The chancellor says William Wragg showed courage in admitting he gave out MPs' phone numbers.

The worrying thing is that these people are in a position of power being MPs. Unbelievably poor judgement.

Theyre just one big boys club aren’t they. And they think they can just do whatever the fuck they like and get away with it.

Im so ashamed of my government, full of cowards, creeps and misogynists.

He should be sacked for actually giving the personal information out and not going straight to the police to report the blackmailer, definitely.

You would hope there was guidance to MPs who were being blackmailed

Not to be dramatic but he is a literal security risk. They’ve not explained how a political journalist’s number was given, when the MP in question never had it. There are obviously more leaks. This is not for the police, it’s for the Home Office to investigate.

Really? He was clearly in a desperate situation and is standing down as an MP, what more do you want?

Maybe someone he’d been messaging on a dating app, getting on well with, had a chat to and (unwisely) shared an explicit pic. It’s stupid but it’s hardly worth the moral outrage.

I think the Government and Tory MPs have done far worse than this and would direct my outrage at their policies not a stupid human error which he will no doubt regret for the rest of his life.

He shouldn’t have shared explicit photos online. He shouldn’t have given into blackmail and shared personal info. But a) he’s paying for it and b)I really don’t think these are the worst things a MP has done. Blackmail is awful and the blackmailer is the one who should be condemned.

William Wragg should have the whip removed and be deselected by the Conservative party.

Though unlikely to retain his seat given the low level of support for the Tories.

He, an MP, decided to send an explicit picture of himself to a stranger.

He is responsible for his own decisions, regardless of the consequence for himself.

YANBU

if you’re an MP you’re party to all sorts of confidential information - if he gave away phone numbers would he also have given away info about his constituents, or sensitive national security info?

I do think it’s good that’s he’s admitted about the phone numbers but who knows if that’s the full story?

Eh? What investigative powers does the Home Office have? Do you mean MI5?

The police are exactly who should be investigating and no doubt will liaise with other agencies if they need to 🤷🏻‍♀️

He’s standing down at the next election so 100 percent won’t retain his seat - no ‘unlikely’ about it.

And who the fuck sends explicit pictures of themselves when a stranger WhatsApps them as seems to have happened with some of the people whose details were given away?

Haha! You couldn’t make this shit up!

I couldn’t care less if he sent explicit pics of himself. But he shouldn’t have disclosed confidential information - that is a sackable offence and his apology is not honourable or courageous as Hunt states.

Sharing an explicit picture of yourself with someone you've never met is foolish, but neither illegal or immoral.

But to hand over someone else's private information in response to blackmail is terrible behaviour. As an MP the only acceptable response to that is to go to the police and the Whips immediately.

MI5 yes, typing while talking the baby into dinner excuse me.

Whatever the case, I think it does need to go to the highest level of national security first. Regular officers can be involved once cleared. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Yes, I can’t imagine anyone sensible in real life sending explicit picks to a person you never met and then give them personal data of other people as an answer to blackmail.
Six formers behave more responsibly.
Of course he is standing down it’s because of this scandal, he obviously knew that he was sending out explicit picks.
