To ask about Ozempic…..

Ok, hard hat at the ready.

I wondered if anyone had any direct (so not my neighbour’s auntie’s postman) experience with Ozempic? Has anyone taken it and not had weird side-effects? Lost weight easily and feels it was A Good Thing?

If you’ve nothing helpful to say, can I ask that you try a different thread? My reasons for potentially doing this are personal and serious. But hard hat ok anyway as I know some people just won’t be able to resist.

I've been using ozempic since September. Initially taking the injection and now on the tablets (because it's difficult to get hold of the injection)

I've lost about 15kg but I've platau'd (no idea how to spell this) a bit but I was told that would happen. I could make more effort but I'm happy with my loss but I'd like to loose more so staying with ít.

No major side effects but in the early days I was sick a couple of times and had indigestion.

I haven't used it personally but it's been well received by the medical community however some caution that patient's commonly regain all their lost weight when they stop taking it.

I’m taking it. No awful side affects - had some sulfur bumps at one point and feeling a little nauseated and tired at others.
I have lost 2 dress sizes. Feel good. Am planning to continue.

I find this interesting. All kinds of people who want to lose weight will be wanting to use it. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Other pharmaceutical companies are developing similar products I believe.

All kinds of people as in not clinically obese or diabetic.

I'm curious about it too but it seems expensive and I worry about side effects. I have heard others say they feel awful, tired and sick on it all the time and as I have migraines I have enough of feeling crap as it is.

I also think it reduces appetite and although I overeat I generally do so while not hungry, I eat for energy or to calm myself or to try and feel better when I am unwell and out of habit it is more psychological for me than being hungry as such and that relates to the type of food I want to eat i.e. crisps, cola, chocolate etc.

Perhaps Ozempic could help me lose weight but I don't think it would solve my issues and that I'd likely gain weight back after stopping. Still I am curious.

I took it for month but it gave me awful diarrhoea so I had to stop, it wasn't just the runs when I went to the toilet it would give me awful stomach cramps and then the diarrhoea just came out before I could get to the toilet.
I also didn't lose and weight but that was because I was eating the wrong foods.

It's not a miracle cure it's an appetite suppressant that will hopefully make you eat less and so lose weight.
Unfortunately it's not my appetite that makes me overweight, I'll eat when I'm not hungry and so the injection didn't affect how much I ate.

My friend and her husband did it at the same time as me and he lost a lot of weight as he drastically reduced how much he was eating.

For me it made me feel like I did in the first few months of pregnancy, slightly nauseous.

If you think that an appetite suppressant will help you then it's definitely worth a try, you don't feel the injection at all.

My sister has used liraglutide same class of drug since Nov 22. She has lost 2.5 stone so far. She has paid for it privately. She mainly has nausea and gets full very quickly. Her plan is to use it for up to a year then to come off. She is also changing habits of a life time that meant she put on the weight.

it's an appetite suppressant that when stopped causes the appetite hormone to return twice as strong as it was prior to taking it.
so either be prepared to be on it for life. or realize, once off, your cravings will be considerably stronger and the weight bound to return plus more.
right now i'm viewing it as crack cocaine for the mass of (often women) who want to loose weight fast and easy without considering the long term implications.

I’m type 2 diabetic and was prescribed this a couple of years ago. I was having trouble finding a medication regime that worked for me and so although I was below the bmi threshold my diabetic nurse decided to try me on it. It was very unpleasant wrt side effects. I had sulphur burps and felt incredibly nauseous especially for the first few days after the injection. I only took the lowest dose before I was taken off it (3 weeks). I didn’t lose any weight although I ate very little due to the nausea. Unfortunately it didn’t lower my blood sugars, in fact they significantly increased! I was then put on insulin which has led to a 2 stone weight gain, so they are talking about me trying Ozempic again in combination with insulin - I’m dreading taking it again but if it works then I’ll have to put up with the side effects.

I think if you have been overweight for years and nothing else has worked, it is worth trying. I also think you need to make changes to eating, exercise and food relationship at the same time.

I know a several people who have taken it before It got massively popular
they all put back on the weight & more very quickly and only one who got very into the gym and running has kept it off

@Gingerlygreen Thanks for that post, I think my over eating is the same as you eating when I am not hungry for other reasons so I'm not sure that this sort of medication is right for me. Also the side effects seem awful.

@greenspaces4peace Yeah I think you might be right, I didn't know the cravings would return twice as strong which seems grim. I lost weight in my early 20's using a supplement which is now off the market but you could buy it in Holland and Barrett at the time, it was a kind of sub amphetamine which I am sure did me more harm than good. At least ozempic has medical backing.

Thanks. Interesting. I suppose you only regain the weight if you return to bad eating habits. If you make an effort to eat differently and move more then you’ll keep it off, no? Like any diet I suppose.

@FMLWTF it's not about returning to bad eating habits, your hormonal/brain urge to eat period doubles.
so even healthy food and your ability to stop after salad will not be the same following the use of this drug.

Report
FMLWTF · 18/04/2023 20:36

Thanks greenspaces do you have a source for that? So even if you eat healthily and within a normal calories allowance, you’ll definitely gain twice as much as you lost? That seems bizarre.

OP posts:

greenspaces4peace · 18/04/2023 20:39

@FMLWTF no, your urge to eat will be more. your appetite and ability to stop after 1 donut or 2-3 slices of pizza will be dialed up higher. so your ability's to portion control will be much more difficult.

I'll be starting on it next week - but mainly for diabetes, with weightloss a secondary thing (I do have a fuck ton to lose).

I am hoping that with reduced appetite it will make dieting less shite as I shift from 1600 cal to more like 1200 cal per day, and reduce the amount of sugar my liver wants to bounce out when im approaching a normal BG level!

@greenspaces4peace this is nonsense. I was on Saxenda and Ozempic and read lots of scientific articles about it and nowhere does jt say your appetite increases after stopping. I think you made that up frankly.

I've been taking Ozempic since Oct '22 and I've lost 36lb so far. I have had minimal side effects - some nausea and headaches but nothing else. I am using it to eating "normally" and gain good habits whilst losing bad. I'm really surprised how little I actually need to eat, I've also really upped my fruit and veg and cut out processed sugar and chocolate. I've also upped my step count and am feeling much healthier due to more exercise and healthier living. I'm really grateful for it - I pay for it privately each month.
