Bloody Borris!

Due to go on holiday on Monday. Announcements made tonight but travel agents not open tomorrow. No idea when the new rules start, government website still says the old rules. I’ve got Lateral Flow tests already but now they’re a complete waste of money and I have to spend hundreds of pounds (which I don’t have spare!) buying PCR tests to replace them. I know we have to protect the country, and I know it’s my own fault for travelling during a pandemic, but I wish they’d decide what they’re doing and then announce it with all the details rather than this stressful drip feed 😭

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2021 23:12

Oh yes I forgot we aren't allowed to call him 'Boris' (or even 'Borris') we have to call him by his full name Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson in case people think he's our mate. Or something. Confused

Tubsen · 27/11/2021 23:14

I guess OP booked this holiday before Covid was heard of and it got postponed, we have concerts booked which have rolled over from booking in 2019 which we are going to next year and the year after, holidays were similar.

friendlycat · 27/11/2021 23:15

I do think at the moment that if you choose to go on holiday you have to factor in unknown extra costs tbh.

Pushing holidays forward or not. It’s just the situation.

I’m about to throw away £800 worth of flights at Christmas but that’s my decision. Personally I don’t feel happy travelling at present and I rather ambitiously booked them at Spring time.

Who said you weren't allowed?

Clue: no-one.

RaoulDufysCat · 27/11/2021 23:21

YABVU

If you choose to go on holiday in the middle of a pandemic, you need to accept that the situation may change quite quickly.

If Johnson hadn't talked such a load of shite with all his 'this is all over, no going back' shtick, I think we'd all be a lot better off and connected with reality!

Lucythewonderdog · 27/11/2021 23:22

I know I’m not being helpful, but I can’t believe someone could plan a holiday (especially in the current climate) without the foresight to expect some emergency last minute extra costs. Sorry OP it’s on you.

Doubledoorsontogarden · 27/11/2021 23:23

Covid is a virus causing a constantly changing global pandemic. It’s not static. YABU to blame one person for this.

EmergencyHydrangea · 27/11/2021 23:26

Don't go on holiday during a pandemic. It's not complicated

ElvisPresleyHadABaby · 27/11/2021 23:26

They can't announce things much in advance because the situation is unfolding literally hour by hour?

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 27/11/2021 23:27

Boris would tell you to cancel your hols and go to Peppa Pig World instead.

Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2021 23:27

Who said you weren't allowed?

Clue: no-one

Except @whoopsnomore on this thread, and there's been many objections on other threads so as it turns out not 'no-one'. Grin

JayAlfredPrufrock · 27/11/2021 23:32

Why do you keep typing Borris?

Scirocco · 27/11/2021 23:33

Viruses don't mutate on a convenient schedule. If we don't do something to control spread, we're risking a highly contagious variant of a very unpleasant virus spreading through the population. The new variant may have some vaccine escape properties too, so it's especially important for us to take precautions.

Personally, I think they need to do more, not less, to control this. I've seen too many people die already in this pandemic.

If you want to help reduce the risks of variants spreading, get vaccinated, use face masks, use hand sanitisers, stay home if you can, social distance wherever possible, self-isolate if needed, do regular lateral flow tests, and loudly support efforts to get wealthy countries to donate vaccines to countries where they are desperately needed.

Yes, it's annoying when your plans have to change, but it's a risk you take if you're making any big plans in a pandemic.

Read her post again. She never said you weren't allowed.
Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2021 23:38

@echt

Can we stop calling him "B" - its his "celeb" nickname to make you think he's a nice approachable bloke

Can we stop=not allowed in my book...

No. They are quite different:

Can we stop is a request, the "can" makes it clear.

Your inference is down to you. And your book.

Not he official Day 2 ones that you need for travel . We paid 21 pounds a few weeks ago .
Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2021 23:45

So calling him Boris is ok then in your book @echt, thats cleared that up then.

Back to the OP's travel problems I guess.

Lalliella · 27/11/2021 23:57

I hate Boris Johnson with an absolute and utter passion. But he’s done the right thing now, finally. Better to act now than act later. He’s saving lives now rather than “letting the bodies pile high” and it’s good he’s finally got his priorities right. In the great scheme of things your holiday is not that important I’m afraid OP.

greenleathertrousers · 27/11/2021 23:59

Sparkling brooks makes sense

amiafreakofnature · 28/11/2021 00:04

@Viviennemary

I wouldn't consider overseas travel at the moment unless absolutely necessary. Far too much hassle. The airport queues are meant to be horrific.
Same I was meant to be going to vienna this week but decided back in September it's probably not worth going ahead with things the way they are. Good job as the week I was meant to go was when they implemented lockdown
Pedalpushers · 28/11/2021 00:08

I'm on holiday atm and my understanding was that it starts now - unsure how im meant to order them to arrive in 2 days which is my day 2, but pretty sure I have to try.

Pedalpushers · 28/11/2021 00:10

Oh and I've travelled many times since pandemic and it's no more hassle than otherwise, financially yes it's a pain buying the tests.

Kitkat151 · 28/11/2021 00:10

Not for your holidays🙄
mausmausmaus · 28/11/2021 00:13

You have my sympathy!

Due to travel on monday for some essential family stuff and already paid/booked for the LFTs to arrive, which are now useless.

It's incredibly frustrating to have to factor in another £50/60 each for a test when we live within walking distance of an NHS testing centre - just because we're going abroad does't mean we won't be taking precautions - we could probably just as easily catch Covid on the bus or going to the supermarket or even on an internal flight. I have no issue with getting tested or quarantining, it's just annoying to know that most of the money is probably going straight to the government's chums!
