AIBU?

To be furious and upset with friends- what do we do

I’ll try and keep this brief.

We (me, DH and DC age 4 and 2.5) were meeting friends (couple with DC age 8 months) at a Christmas light walk through thing around 1 hour 15 from where we live last Sunday eve at 4:30pm.
They booked tickets I transferred money (£62)
We get there at 4:25, message saying we are here will wait in car so we can all go in together as you have tickets
Response 4:35 ‘so sorry running late! We left about 45 mins ago won’t be long’
Rang x 2 eventually answer, asked if they will send us the e tickets so we can get in. ‘No no we are 10 mins away’
DC getting bored, wound up, want to go in. Text them asking to send tickets.
They Arrive 5:15. None of us allowed in as we have missed our slot.
We are raging, kids are crying we all take the bloody long journey home having to get a Maccies to cheer kids up.
We message asking for the money back, they say it’s ‘just one of those things, ridiculous they wouldn’t let us in’

They’re good friends but I am raging. It’s entirely their fault, they are v PFB and he woke up late from his nap then wanted a super long feed which is why they were late. How do I ask again, and firmly? They are unreasonable right??

@Jacketpotato84

Who would decide whether it was resolved?

I think when the OP posts that they've resolved it, that's a fairly clear signal.

Longer to read the thread than the entirity of the event!!

@NewPapaGuinea

There should be a “mark as resolved” option on threads 😆

Yes! Idea of the year 🌟

I had (notice had) a friend like this OP. Something similar happened and I was made to feel like the bad person for asking for it back. It took a while and a few instalments Hmm but got it back. Friendship ended after that.

@AwaAnBileYerHeid enlighten us to what sort of scenario does warrant dragging a wife by their hair?
@AwaAnBileYerHeid - “What on earth? I'd have actually dragged the wife out by her hair.”

Are you actually serious about this comment? I mean, I know the situation wasn’t great - but maybe stern words with the husband opening the door would be a slightly better option than physical violence against his wife!
@furries no, my comment was actually posted on the wrong thread (no ideas how) - I was actually responding to another thread.

For the record, I do not think the scenario on this thread warrants dragging the wife out by the hair 😂

@BloomingTrees

YANBU. I'd tell them the DC were so disappointed to have missed out that you have promised them you'll rebook and send them your bank details for them to repay you the money.

Agree they are being unreasonable. Maybe they wanted to all go in together because they are losing their sanity with young baby but wrong that you all missed out.
I think BloomingTrees' suggestion is excellent. If they then fall out with you over it then it's their loss!

Another poster who is soooo busy that they can't click "see all" or even have a quick look at what the most recent posts say.

There are almost 500 messages on this thread and three days have elapsed since the original post. Were you really not in the slightest bit curious to see what actually happened or what other people may have had to say?

Ask for your money back. Their fault. They pay. Being flaky after the birth of a child is okay in first month, after that it is an excuse. And how would they feel if it was the other way about. Sometimes a fine is what is needed... Hit them in the pocket, then they realise they are being stupid! If they make a huge fuss, are they really good friends?

Seriously 😳

Sorry for not reading every single last comment on the thread it’s cos we have more important things to do not as much time as you to scrutinise everyone commenting late

So read the OP's posts.

And don't waste yours and everyone else's time with pointless/incorrect respinses

Whether or not the friend could have fed the baby on the way is irrelevant. They held OP and her family up, did not let them know, withheld the tickets, did not apologise. She has sent the money but OP said the message was quite curt. I would not be tolerating any passive aggressive behaviour from the friend, in fact I would have to (calmly) tell her that I was put out by the whole experience.

I don't really understand why you'd take a 8m baby to this event anyway. Its freezing out at 4/30pm. They're not going to appreciate it are they.

We went to one on Saturday at 4:30pm

People with babies were having a miserable time. We saw one man having to leave a short way into the walk as the baby in pram was inconsolable. Most likely cold 🥶

LoisLane66 you also said she could burp and change the baby in the back seat. Would that also be with baby safely strapped in the seat?

Report

@LoisLane66

know that it's illegal nowadays but there is nothing to stop you feeding a child with expressed milk whilst both you and child are appropriately 'restrained'.
My children were born before it became law to wear seatbelts in front or the back of a vehicle. That was law in 1973 for front seats. Back seat safety belt law was 1991 and baby and children under a certain age/height in 2006. (UK)
Naturally, no-one in their right mind nowadays would not wear seat restraints although some still do which is madness.
I should have made it clear that I meant expressed milk by bottle, although in a bygone age I fed mine on my lap if necessary.

What a blatant backtrack.

You said ‘No reason she couldn’t BF in the car’.

@LoisLane66

No reason why she couldn't BF in the car. It's not as if they'd be driving over rutted dirt tracks...a bumpy ride.
She could have sat comfortably in the back, fed burped and changed baby while husband drove.
I've done it many times on long trips, without incident.
Glad to read that you asked again and she sent the money. You deserve better friends but I bet she won't do that again.
Enjoy your trip.

What you mean is you broken the law many times and your experience is a sample of one that didn't lead to a fatal car accident. It's not the 1970's now. Were you smoking and feeding too by any chance?
