I can't stop shaking

Something really traumatic happened last night, I'm not in danger now but I've woken up and I can't stop shaking and feel sick. I'm on my own.
I can't talk myself down.

Bargain at 99p! What sort of books do you normally read? Snoring DH here too!

Found this on the iplayer today. The episodes are only 15 minutes long.
I've only seen the first episode but it was quite funny. May be a pleasant but passive distraction?

Have a look around you. Name 5 things that you can see/hear/smell that make you feel safe.

I've got to be at work at 7. I like travel books, psychological thrillers not now though. Occasionally I read chick lit if I'm in the right mood.

That play rehearsal looks good, I'll watch that later. I need to try and sleep, I'm still on edge but not panicking now. Thank you.

I'm going to go and try and read and see if I fall asleep. Thank you for being there. Weirdly I have pins and needles in my toes, hope that goes away soon.

Self help for your nerves is an amazing book by Dr Claire Weekes. Its quite cheap on Amazon. Just in case you need it, Flowers

Good luck with sleep. Check back in whenever you need to. If you need help sleeping I sometimes picture a window with my eyes closed, everything else is dark. Then I watch and it is as though someone is painting the window black so there is less and less light until it is all black. Probably sounds weird and likely doesn't make sense but it works for me sometimes.

Slow breaths in through your nose and the breath out through your mouth. Concentrate on that - but it’s also fine if it doesn’t work at first! Just slow breaths. Sit somewhere you’re comfortable and just concentrate on regulating your breathing and that’s the only thing that matters for a bit even if it’s not right at first. I love mhairi mcfarlane for a fun distraction chick lit but clever book. And all of us are here if you want to chat.

The pins and needles will be the beta blocker starting to kick in, dont let it bother you.

Can you imagine Mumsnetters giving you a big hug, you feel safe and warm, you lay your head on our shoulders, we stroke your back. You feel completely safe and can relax. We will take your worries for the night, let us carry them. You can have them back in the morning, but for now we will watch over you.

Ive recently started listening to the radio alot, the presenters voices are quite relaxing to listen to if you get a radio station where they talk alot, its a good distraction, put headphones on and snuggle in bed closing my eyes listening, it helps faze out my own inner thoughts, rescue remedy drops on the tongue also can take the edge off sometimes or watching white noise beach waves etc on youtube

Do you have any songs from childhood/ a happier time in your life that you love?

Sometimes when I have an anxiety attack I put one on repeat on Youtube with earbuds and the sense of comfort from the familiarity really helps take away my focus on the panic. A few poems also work for me, repeating them in my head over and over. The rhythm of the words or music can be helpful.

Sorry you're feeling so bad Flowers

Do you think a bit of Yoga would help? Theres loads of starter exercises on youtube.
I find Yoga helps me in similar situations.

World service through the night can also be surprisingly distracting and calming listen.

I put something on the tv that is interesting enough to listen to with my eyes shut - nicer than living with my thoughts
