AIBU?

To think DH should apologise to me?

In December I started looking up ways to make money “on the side”. I found a way to make money online, just an hour or so a day, no outlay, no bothering other people ... just easy money. Since December I have made £920.
DH wants nothing to do with it as he can’t be arsed to learn it but is chuffed with the profits made so far.
Yesterday I cocked up and lost £10 (taking my overall profit to £910). DH was cross and had a go at me asking what I was playing at and how did I manage to cock it up and lose money. He doesn’t even know the basics of what I do!! How can he criticise when he can’t even be arsed to learn the basics??

He’s come around now and admits that as we’re still £910 in profit he can’t complain but I’m so annoyed!! AIBU to want an apology for making me feel stupid and incompetent!?

"It does not require the skills of an accountant! I am shit with money and organisation in general but I perfectly competent at matched betting."

Don't dumb yourself down @LeSquigh; it does require a degree of organisation and accounts if you are mug betting 80+ accounts and keeping track of balances, offers and transfers . If you find that easy, then that is your calling, it is boring though, isn't it?

I really don't understand why anyone thinks "advertising" matched betting is a thing. How would OP benefit from a stranger googling matched betting and making themselves a few hundred / thousand quid.
I personally am quite selfish and would like to keep it quiet so fewer people take it up Grin

This over £10 - seriously!? Stealth boast...

Mumsnet HQ, can we do away with these betting adverts, please? [hmm} you clearly dont undeestand matched betting if you think this is a gambling ad! Haha

Op I started off matched betting and I made about 7k from it. I definitely made errors and lost some money (very.minimul amount like you) but its not actually a loss if you're still in profit. If not be telling him anything about it tbh. He wasn't interested before. You've almost made 1k. What the fuck Is he moaning for? Arse.

Karen and the kids both think you are being unreasonable. We had a long conversation about it, Elizabeth even drew a diagram! She's so smart for her age. Thank you for supplying us with our evening entertainment.

I can understand why you're upset OP. How can he complain about something he knows nothing about.

Well done OP

Your dh is an idiot

I'm too stupid to do it Blush I've sat through an entire film and not known I've seen it before - I would 100% forget which horse I'd already laid on

@Joebloggswazere HmmConfused simply type matched betting for a newbie into google. Follow the step by step instructions
It's no secret

Now, let’s not flood OP with our pm’s asking how she did it, all at once! I’m sure she’ll tell you in time, no shoving ladies!

That’s not a ‘sideline’ business that is gambling op

It really isn’t.

Good luck with Cheltenham OP!

You should get a job in advertising. Great marketing skills.

I do agree with the PP that says it needs a new name - it isn’t gambling in any form.

Just don't tell him, I can't fathom people who share the minutiae of their day with anyone, even dp.
If you've a £900 bank you should be able make £500 this week at Cheltenham by the way

Yes, that would frustrate me too, OP. Especially as he can’t be bothered to learn how to do it himself. Well done on your success so far!

People make mistakes matched betting, it is hard to keep all the balls juggled and it annoys me that people suggest it as an easy way to make money. It requires the smarts of an accountant; it is not for everyone, tell him to feck off and do an hours overtime if he is so bothered.

It is easy to make and the odd mistake though. I lay the same horse twice today because I thought the first lay hadnt registered. Luckily for me the horse lost and I was an extra £30 better off 😀. Didn’t realise until after the race though.

It does sound like a non issue to me. Especially as your DH has admitted that he was in the wrong now, so that should be the end of the matter. Hmm

Report
Tomtontom · 10/03/2019 20:30

How did you make a mistake?

The key to matched betting is that it's risk free, so if you lost money you're doing something wrong. I could understand his concern if you're not being as careful as you should be, MB is a great way to make money but it's very very dangerous if you step outside the rules.

Report
ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/03/2019 20:30

People are puzzled I think because it is a non issue, and the op is on a bit of a stealth boast. That’s how she’s coming across, well to me and several other posters.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 10/03/2019 20:27

Why are people so Hmm about the OP sharing about matched betting? Anyone can do it, and it doesn't benefit her in any way that others might want to do it. In fact, one could argue that the more who do it the more likely the companies are to reduce the opportunities.

No it's not. Seriously don't proclaim something you clearly know nothing about.

OP - if you've got a decent amount in your exchange you should make a lot more than £100 next week!

It's not a non issue Confused, it would really annoy me. If you had actually lost money from your bank account that's one thing, but you just didn't make as much profit.

Matched betting is a hard slog that needs a lot of concentration for relatively low gain, he shouldn't get to criticise tbh.

Report
JocelynBell1 · 10/03/2019 20:25

Are you sure it's not £930?

It's great you chose to share the exact figures. Hmm
