To ask what your 13 year old DD's do for fun?

Just trying to see if mine's like others....I used to worry about her a lot as she's always been very self-contained and mature for her age....even as a toddler she seemed grown up.

She's got to 13 quite smoothly really and has always had a nice friendship group but she spends an inordinate amount of time in her room!

She goes ice skating about once a fortnight with her mates or into the city to shop and drink weird "bubble tea" Hmm and to the rare sleepover ....she doesn't really like sleepovers but will attend if one of her friends does that as a birthday celebration.

She laughs and chats to her mates online (can hear her) and watches things on Netflix and Youtube.

Does that sound ok? What do yours do?

Papaya: I forgot to say "asks for stuff constantly". That, too.

This thread has made me feel so much better. I was worried that my dd spends so much time in her room, thought she didn’t want to be around me (she probably doesn’t because I’m not cool).

I have a 12 year old dd too, she spends less time in her room but at the moment she’s sat near me on a laptop with a iPad next to her which is playing Eminem from YouTube Hmm, I should be greatful that she’s in the same room as me.

My almost 13 year old dd spends a huge amount of time in her room watching series on Netflix, or on her phone to her friends. She occasionally goes roller skating and plays for a football team which has training twice a week and matches on a sunday. She spends very little time with us. Also spends quite a bit of time with her best friend and will sometimes go into town at the weekends shopping.

DD 13 very soon..
Gymnastics and swimming at the weekend. Army cadets on two evenings a week.
She plays the sims, watches Netflix in her room and chats to her friends on whatapp.
Occasionally she'll go for a Costa or to the trampolining place but mainly she likes to be in her PJs laid on her bed.
She draws and does vlogs of makeup styles. She argues with me and dresses the dog up while trying to teach her new tricks..
She bakes ( very well!) with her nan if ever I'm at work and she's looking after them.

My dd is almost 14, spends a lot of time in her room on skype with friends, goes to youth club once a week and occasionally goes to the cinema with friends. She doesn’t go to any other clubs and doesn’t show much interest in socialising out of school.

Mine sounds the same as yours. She much prefers to be at home. She chats to her friends online, watches netflix, goes for the odd cinema trip with her friends or into town and occasionally sleeps over at a friends house but always says she’s glad to be home the next day. It’s where she’s most comfortable and means she can slob about in her pjs and a hoodie.

Oh yes, mine also loves to make pancakes, waffles and mug-cakes.

Slightly younger but she spends a lot of time taking random photos on snapchat. Follows dogs on instagram, has sleepovers, potters around poundland, makes slime, makes pancakes and watches things she shouldn't be watching on youtube and netflix. She also plays football so has a match and training every week.

Watches crap on her phone (we don’t have have a TV, because I don’t watch it). Fights with her siblings. Forgets to feed and water her hamster. Argues with her frenemies on Snapchat. Paints her eyebrows. Thinks about her eyebrows. Takes selfies of her eyebrows. Takes her eyebrows to Starbucks and Nando’s with the frenemies with whom she falls out on Snapchat. I would give my right arm for her to do something even vaguely useful or interesting. Fortunately she has Saturday school, which gives her slightly less opportunity to fritter her time away on all of the above.

Mine is 12. We held out until her 12th birthday for a smart phone, and bitterly regret getting it. She is obsessed with playing games on it. She does a fair bit of art stuff on there too, but we have to provide distractions so that she doesn't spend her entire life on there. Anyway, she plays the flute and piano so has weekly lessons and is meant to practise every day. She plays in a few school groups, attends netball club and also the occasional match. In her spare time (which admittedly is more limited than some of her peers due to her music) she reads, draws, meets up with friends occasionally, grumbles quite a lot and whines about wanting to play on the phone/ computer!

My 13yo sounds very similar to yours, OP, although she goes to the ice rink 3-4 times a week (lessons on Mondays and Wednesdays, then one or two public sessions when she's bored).
She also loves to read mangas (Japanese comic books) and takes Japanese classes once a week and manga drawing classes once a week.
When she's at home she mainly stays in her room reading, watching YouTubers or chatting online with her friends or older siblings (she's the youngest and only one still living at home).

Swimmimg (3 x weekly plus competitions), piano, drawing, doing 'Musiclys' (is that a word?) on her 'phone, reading, WhatsApping with her class mates, listening to a bloody irritating YouTuber called Bibi, painting her nails, practising handstands against the wardrobe in her bedroom, occasional sleepover or cinema visit, and playing with her dolls (but ONLY when she thinks no one will see).

DS1 (14) goes to the gym once a week, Drama once a week and trampolining once a week. Other than that he spends most of his time either in his room (singing, SIMS, YouTube, face time, etc) or singing and dancing in the garden.

DS2(13) does no clubs, he delivers the local paper once a week and apart from that spends his time in his room playing games on his PC, chatting to friends, watching YouTube, drooling over trainers or sleeping!

Yr 9dd just turned 14 - does play 4 musical instruments (but doesn't practice!). Choir twice a week and Saturday music school. She usually takes herself off for a run a couple of times a week. The rest of the time she is doing homework/on her phone/baking cakes/doing her nails (or fake ones to stick on at the weekend)/watching Netflix. Once a month or so if she has a bit of extra time she'll meet up with a friend to go swimming/shopping/cinema/coffee/sailing.

As PPs have said social media to discuss the dramas of the day takes a long time at this age - she has a particularly nasty tutor group compared with her older sister.

Mostly I am surprised and just a bit amazed by her calm attitude, her maturity for her age and the sense that she is just so much more together/insightful/switched on than I ever was (or even managed to be by 21)
I think I can speak for all of them when I say this, despite the fallings out, they are great great girls with everything going for them...
