I haven't been abroad since I was a child. Taking my children away for new year and in really confused about what you can and cannot take on the plane (We're travelling with hand luggage only)
First things first! Can I take my e-cig and liquids in my luggage. I'm definately going to need this to resist trmptation while in the smoking capital of the world! Eek!
What about bottles of drinks/snacks/sweets?
A handbag full of shit aswell as my cabin case.
Make up! What about my mascara and foundation? They're liquid!
I'm so confused.

Also any packing and general travelling advice would be helpful.

Ahh! I'm so excited to be going on a plane!!!!!

Chrys2017 that's a point. It depends on the airline but also the airport. Gatwick are rubbish but Inverness do issue telt to get passengers to sit the fuck down so that small female people can actually get to the place they've paid for...

Just buy some of the stuff when you are through security - they don't have fit in the clear bag, just within your hand luggage allowance. Only issue is if you want to bring them back. With toiletries, etc we just buy cheap ones when there and leave them. I buy travel size versions of other stuff such as creams and toothpaste, often in Boots through passport control. I take bare minimum of make up - I don't bother with it much on a family holiday anyway.

Look on the websites for the airport and airline that you are using. People often post incorrect information on threads like this.

Share shampoo, shower gel etc or buy airside or when you get there, but don't forget that if it's larger than 100 ml, you can't bring it back. But not all airports have a Boots so check what is available airside.

You can get small tubs from Boots, Superdrug, camping shops or all over the place to take small amounts of creams.

I had my own clear bag at Southampton airport a few weeks ago and they made me empty it and put the stuff in theirs. Not everything would fit, but it wasn't all liquids, so I was ok and didn't have to ditch anything.

Maybe your bag was the wrong size/type. I have never had an issue flying from Manchester airport using a small resealable freezer bag

You can also buy Calpol melts and then you don't need to worry about liquid at all but it depends on the age of the kids I guess.

Don't need to get a bag from the airport. I always use a small resealable freezer bag from the supermarket

if you pay for priority boarding EVERY OTHER FUCKER stands up when you're called and you can't get through,

Depends on the airline. Most have a separate queue/door for priority boarding.

Another thing I've learned from eight flights in as many months (BF in Scotland) is that if you pay for priority boarding EVERY OTHER FUCKER stands up when you're called and you can't get through, so don't bother.Great tip about contact lens cases for potions btw, thank you! Enjoy your holiday OP ☺

I think you only need a prescription to carry liquid medication over 100mls. I carried an injectable pen device in my clear bag with no label or prescription with no issues, as well as a raft of unlabelled tablets.

There's a smoking area airside at Cardiff Intl and Belfast Intl. not at Belfast City as I learned to my deep disappointment. Nobody noticed me stealth vaping in the toilet though...

You can just buy Calpol in Boots once you've gone through security :)

MN anti-science attitudes means everyone talks just about liquids

What on earth does this mean? I understand that people don't necessarily read the advice properly or follow it. But how does that make MN anti-science? Hmm

medicines. Surely theres different rules for medical items as you're not supposed to decant medicines into other containers?

Leave the medicines in their original, labelled containers and put liquid meds in your plastic bag with your other liquids... unless you have meds that are over 100ml or meds that can't go through the security scanner. (What kind of meds are you talking about here?)

Sorry, just realised the multiple cross posts!
I vaped in LHR toilets, Miami, Caribbean, JFK. Nobody has ever known. I wouldn't vape on the plane though obviously, but in airports I always have.

You have to carry e-cigs in your luggage, they're not allowed in checked baggage. I travel all the time and always carry my e-cigs. Not had a problem through any airport.

Just make sure if you carry a full one, that you can fit it in your clear plastic bag along with your liquid.
Would also recommend you take it apart before you take off and empty the juice as the pressure changes can cause it to leak.

Good idea about the Calpol sachets. I'll get a box of those too.

Checked creams. They're only 30g tubes and half the size of the average tube of toothpaste so that's fine. I'll get havw to get some smaller moisturizers as they won't fit in a 20x20 bag.

You can buy individual calpol sachet.

If it's prescription medicine then take a copy of the prescription. If it's over the counter stuff it would need to be in a bottle under 100mls or buy it in boots after security

Report
TempusEejit · 14/12/2017 14:42

Creams, moisturisers etc count as liquids. Medical items are exempt but ONLY if you have some kind of specific documentation from your doctor - the airline's website will confirm what's what.

I'm a frequent flier. Nobody would know, but empty afterwards as your tanks will be flooded the other end. I use the nicotine pipes between the gate and arrival. Nobody gives a fuck if you vape past security in departures as long as you're discreet / blow into bag / down top etc

Report
stickytoffeevodka · 14/12/2017 14:39

What kind of medications? Are they prescription or things like calpol? Because I don't think you're allowed to take the latter, and the former has to be labelled with the person's name and prescription details I think.

Report
Welshmaenad · 14/12/2017 14:37

I flew on the weekend and took my ecig in hand luggage. Spare eliquid went in my clear bag. Travel with the tank empty though so it doesn't leak.

Clear bag must be sealable, 20x20cm max, each individual container must be less than 100ml. I put all my makeup in there, small perfume bottle, plus my injectable medication as it's also liquid.

Put it somewhere accessible in your case as at security you will be required to take it out and put it in a separate tray for screening. You will also need to separate large electricals like iPads, your coat, and your shoes. Be aware that sequinned jumpers set the security scanners off 😂

Snacks are fine but you will have to buy bottled water/drinks airside as you won't be allowed to carry them through.

If you go to the pharmacy you can buy packs of contact lens cases. One side of that will easily hold enough foundation/face cream/etc for a week. Then you don’t have to take the whole bottle/jar.

Haha stealth vape! I wouldn't dare. Although would anyone really know if I had a cheeky vape in the airport toilet before boarding?

Ecigs are fine. Easyjet lets you take two spare batteries. And liquids under 100ml in cabin luggage. Empty clearos before the flight and don't try to stealth vape though. The pressure makes tanks flood 😒
