Let's face it, after brexit they were going the way of the dodo.

By throwing themselves into the often politely ignored issues around community integration and extremism I think they will be stealing a big chunk of the Tory vote again.

Especially the removal of passports from anyone leaving the country to fight for ISIS.

If that had been in place earlier then the Manchester murderer wouldn't have been able to enter the country.

I wouldn't worry, it's just the opinion of someone who can't work out how to choose a proper user name.

User I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding but are you suggesting my knowledge of English Language is somewhat lacking? If so, I would query the evidence.

Peter, you are flogging a dead horse here.

You must remember this is a UKIP thread. A basic level of English is beyond many of its supporters.

I'm definitely voting UKIP as are a lot of people I know

Wow. Where are you all clustered? I've never met a UKIP supporter - at least not one who would admit it.

If UKIP's big idea is not to let UK citizens back into their own country, it seems odd to vote for something that can't be done. International Law requires each country to be responsible for its own citizens.

A more sensible idea would be to remove passports from anyone wanting to go abroad from the UK to fight for ISIS and so on. However, that requires finding out their intentions. It ain't going to happen.

Well this is embarrassing Grin

I started this thread but after watching the live debates I'm now voting Labour for the first time.

As you were...

UKIP are utter crap but I hope they split the Tory vote.

They won't. They have pulled out of Labour marginals and have less candidates than the greens.

Peterhouse, I think you'll find you used the word 'nutter'. Your definition of loon I notice missed out 'a crazy person', also in the dictionary.
Either way, it was wrong and disablist and to defend yourself is equally disgusting.

Let's hope that there are enough delusional racists in the country to split the Tory vote beyond their ability to achieve a majority.

I used the word 'loon'.

Definition from the Oxford English dictionary:

loon
NOUN

informal
A silly or foolish person.
‘if only she weren't such a lovesick loon’
More example sentencesSynonyms
Origin
Late 19th century: from loon (referring to the bird's actions when escaping from danger)

Loony. That's the word you used.
The verdict did not read 'not guilty by reason of mental disorder or insanity'. which is exactly why 'loony' is offensive. He isn't mentally ill. He has autism. They are different.

Why is it OK to call a person with ASC a 'loony'? That's not good is it?

It is utterly ridiculous that the post is removed.

Moderators, please leave the above post.

Removing it gives the impression I said something far more heinous.

Yes you do. You used them to call him a name and haven't apologised. It was nasty. I get that you're distressed. Do you get that I am, every single time someone calls someone on the spectrum a name in a public place, a name that is nasty and doesn't fit, it affects all of us with the same diagnosis. It has an impact on children in schools, on people at universities. It influences people when they're interviewing for jobs. The wider picture is your prejudices influence others. At no point have I said what he did was acceptable.
At no point have you apologised to those of us who are hurt and distressed by your post. Each time you come back, I will call you out on it. You know the post was unacceptable otherwise it would still be standing.

This weapons-obsessed teenager wanted to cause carnage by planting a homemade bomb on the Jubilee line, a line my daughter takes to work every day. He could have killed and maimed her.

But you object to me calling him a name.

I really don't have words.

I haven't said that though, I have Peterhouse. I said the term you used in your now deleted post was disgusting. You did not refer to his autism, did you.
His autism, his reasons for planting the bomb etc are a separate discussion. You called him a disablist name. You haven't apologised for doing so. And whilst we're on the subject, Asperger syndrome is not a mental disorder.

Damon Smith was convicted of planting a homemade bomb on a London underground train during morning rush hour. If this bomb full of shrapnel had gone off, it would have killed and maimed.

Damon Smith was found 'guilty' of the crime by the courts. The verdict did not read 'not guilty by reason of mental disorder or insanity'.

I find the implication that he should be exonerated on the grounds of Asperger's completely wrong.

I have Asperger Syndrome. I'm well aware of the blaming policies, I'm also well aware of how it works.
However, that was not what was at question here.
