I love Bachelors pre soaked peas. I didn't know that you could still buy them..
I would love them on any roast dinner.

Tinned mushy peas? I'm not a fan - but as I can't remember the last time I had a Christmas dinner cooked for me, I would eat them gladly.

Did DH apologise for his parents or get stuck in..?

You don't have an in law problem, you have a DH problem. He should have stuck up for you and told them that their veg was unacceptable. LTB! Xmas Angry

They serve them at our local carvery too, as part of the veg on offer with the roast. They seem a popular option.

I must have missed this - I am Northern and never known mushy peas on roast leaving out that I wouldn't eat them if they were last food on Earth

It sounds like a 'regional' thing OP, my heart goes out to you - maybe next year ur DH could distract them when u arrive, while u ferret thru their larder and confiscate such items? It's for their own good in the long run ;-).

Ellypoo - yes definitely Northern and quite old school I think, people don't tend to do it so much anymore. They probably don't have time to soak the peas.

This has made me so jealous. My Nan always served mushy peas with a roast, I loved it. I remember her putting them in to soak every Saturday. They were the best roast dinners in the world!

WHAAAAT??!!

That's more than grounds for divorce - they are the worst thing on Earth; they have the taste and consistency of vomit.

Vile. Vile. Vile

Go and see a Family Solicitor no later than Wednesday.

There's nothing wrong with mushy peas with a roast dinner - is it a northern thing? My grandma always did it, wax beautiful.

I have had confit of goose on a bed of crushed peas. Which is basically mushy peas.

Mushy peas are fantastic. Send them round here and I'll swap you for sliced carrots.

Dh's family always serve mushy peas with christmas dinner (bachelor's quick soak peas).
Therefore we have to serve them when we cook a Christmas dinner. I avoid them.

Holy shit. Nope. It's almost as bad as tinned sweetcorn on a Christmas dinner. Shudders

And also... totally divorce.

Andrewofgg · 25/12/2016 21:35

Peas, mushy or not, should be part of every meal. YABU!

Could be worse. The first Christmas I was with DH MIL served fried mushrooms. Confused

I love a fried mushroom. On a fry up. I was utterly bemused to find them on a Christmas dinner. MIL was most offended that I refused them (to be fair, I'm not very good at hiding my facial expressions) and has basically only just forgiven me six years later.

And here was me still feeling sad that I didn't get to eat any pigs in blankets today at the in-laws. Mushy peas!!!

My dd is breastfed and allergic to milk so I can't eat milk. So I couldn't eat the packet bread sauce thank god they usually have so I offered to make and bring some using almond milk for everyone. Nope, mil insisted they all have their packet bread sauce as apparently her 32 year old daughter loves it, she doesn't, so I bought my own little Tupperware for one of yummy home made bread sauce Grin.

My husband makes pea purée with Sunday roast, didn't do it today but that is basically posh mushy peas, really nice veg side.
