To think that a skirt which touches the knee is a knee length skirt?

Dd is in year 11 and has the longest skirt out of the kids I see walking to the bus stop in our village. It's from the school uniform shop in town so is in no way a tight/Lycra/body hugging type skirt. When she's stood up it is touching her kneecap front and back.

Dd says her form teacher lines the girls up most weeks and does a uniform inspection. Doesn't do this to the boys to make sure their trousers are regulation. Form teacher has said to her "you ought to get a new skirt, that ones too short".

I'm guessing the form teacher can't be that bothered as dd hasn't been sent home.

I honestly see girls in her year with skirts which barely cover their arse.

On top of this dd says that in form time other girls (the popular ones, dd is a geek) take the piss out of her make up and hair and she says there have been a few times when the form teacher has been sat at the back chatting to the popular girls about tv, etc and when one of them call out an insult to dd the girls laugh and the form teacher joins in!

Even if the skirt is just above the knee, I assume your DD is in Y11 so it would be unreasonable of the school to expect you to pay for a new item of uniform with 6 months of school left - especially if she will be taking "study leave" in the run up to the exam period.

I suspect your daughter is keen to get out of there and behaviours/comments that wouldn't have bothered her in the past are now having a bigger impact as she counts down the days...

At work a knee length skirt is in the middle of or just below the knee(work in investment banking so we get detailed dress guidelines).

When my DD had uniform inspection she used to unbutton her skirt so it fell down onto her hips and appeared longer than it was. How she got away with it I will never know. OP your DDs skirt sounds absolutely fine.

I can remember my headmistress informing the school that "skirts should be knee length, which gives you four inches if leeway depending on where you think your knees are". In other words, they could be from the top of the kneecap to the bottom of the kneecap.

Dd certainly seems to believe that the teacher has laughed when another girl has taken the piss out her hair.

Are you seriously saying that a teacher publicly laughs at your daughter and joins in with jeering and ridiculing?

I find it hard to believe that teacher would do that. She may be laughing with other students about something that is important for that child. She may be unaware that your DD is being teased by the other kids.

If you believe that the teacher was making fun of your DD obviously you should speak to the school.

The skirts thing - I had that!!! Used to roll it over at the top until t barely covered my pubes.

PossumInAPearTree: Hard to comment without seeing the skirt, tbh. Students in my class tend to say their skirts are knee length when they're not quite knee length. Sometimes they are leaning forward to look at them and that makes them look longer to them. Sometimes they naturally ride up as the student walks around. It's a difficult one.

The school policy says skirts must be knee length, it touches the knee. It's between the top of her kneecap and the middle of her kneecap.

If the last part is accurate, that is obviously awful. The skirts thing is school policy, not up to the teacher. I have to do the same thing with girls in my form, or when their HOY or SLT sees the skirt it's coming back my way as "Why wasn't this dealt with during form time?" As if I haven't got enough to do! Hmm

I said I'd have a word and she doesn't want me to "I'm fucking leaving that shithole soon anyway" was her response. Grin

She's applied for a "nicer" school for sixth form. Just hoping she gets in!

Yeah I guess the girls with skirts who I see which are short would quickly unroll them for an inspection.

And I doubt dd would roll hers up at school and even if she did she's not stupid, she would tug it down for an inspection.

I've just come to the conclusion her form tutor is an immature arse.

The teacher sounds like an absolute dick ! ...I hate when the teachers try to be seen as 'cool' with the kids, all pally like..they are there to teach and inspire not be 'mates', as for the knee length skirt, it sounds absolutely fine! I would consider a word with year tutor about form teachers behaviour and remarks..your dd must feel really bloody pissed off about it and I don't blame her.

That all sounds a bit (and parts of it, a lot) off.

DD's school has a rule about skirt length, and teachers will challenge skirts that look too short - on an individual basis when spotted, not a whole class line up which sounds dreadful.

Thise who appear to wear pelmets are usually rolling them up at the waist. DD's skirt is a adequate length, but you wouldn't think so the way she wears it! So that might be what the other girls are doing?

The conduct described in your last paragraph beggars belief.
