AIBU?

To hate her voice

You know when you KNOW YABU - and petty, and mean, and unkind.

I can't stand a woman's voice.

It's nasal, common, shouty and goes right through me.

I HATE it.

I know I'm BU but has anyone else ever had this!?

Not one I hear every day, but sporty spice aka melanie c. Her voice is both nasally AND throaty. It goes through me like nothing else whatsoever.

I'm horribly judgemental about glottal stops. I try not to be, but when I hear words such as bu-er, wa-er, etc. I want to ask what poor little letter (or le-er) T has done to deserve being ignored in such a cavalier fashion.

My mother does this thing where I think she's trying to sound posh but just sounds ridiculous and a bit pissed!

I have someone at work I actually cannot work with , because the pitch of her voice actively sets off my tinnitus , particularly if she gets excited . The first time it happened , I lasted an hour before I had to admit defeat and make an excuse to work away from her , because she was making the whistle unbearable . It's a shame really , because she's actually a lovely woman , and very good at her job .

Woman at work's voice annoys me, its the tone rather than the accent. Its a montone and the way she sounds like shes describing an ordeal. If she missed her bus, next one was late and she had to stand, she can make it sound like she's walked to work, taken a 300 mile detour, barefoot over broken glass strewn roads, etc etc.
She can go for hours.

there's a few people whose voices have annoyed me, it's mainly an accent where people pronounce 'ing' as 'een', i.e. "let's go shoppeeeen"

so annoying

A long time ago, we had a group secretary called Amanda (in case she's reading Smile) She was compact of stature and had the voice of an excitable six-year-old. She was extremely fond of her pet cat, to whom she'd refer at every conceivable opportunity as "my pussy". All of this would've driven me bananas, if not for the fact she was as sharp as knives and formidably tough - instead of coming over ditsy, she was adorable!

She once caught a burglar in the office, and charmed him into waiting while she called the police! (I can't remember if he hung around to be arrested, mind, but she was awesome.)

Here are the things I hate about Annoying Woman's voice:

She never says her 'h's'.
She says 'fort' instead of 'for'
She says 'eh' after everything
Her 'o's' sound like 'a's'
Her 'i's' also sound like 'a's

'Am Ot. Am dead Ot, me. Ah yew Ot? Eh? Ah yew Ot?'
(I'm hot; I'm really hot! Are you hot?')

I can't bear Sarah Sidle from CSI, she whines about the blu-u-ud. Also Bones, and most of her costars.

Ok, here goes. I really dislike the way my neighbours sounds. (Never admitted that to anyone as I feel it's rude to comment in rl etc). She sounds like a 3 years old, both in tone, pitch and vocabulary. She's in her late fifties.

A girl I went to college with had an irritating voice. It was really raspy, when I first met her I assumed she had a throat infection/cough/cold ... but no, it's her normal voice - just always sounds like she needs to clear her throat. Although it probably wouldn't have annoyed me if she was a nice person, but she was a bully so I guess it made me hate it more than it would have with anyone else.

Twowords -- Lise Doucette.
Horrible voice with weird, random emphases.
I'm not fond of JSP's voice either, too nasal and too fucking loud.

I can't stand how Jamie Oliver talks or sounds. Watching him talk makes me nauseated... how his lips move..; 2 ugly fat slugs slobbering around.

My BIL speaks like a Jamie clone. I have no idea why. It's not the accent of his parents. DH and SIL don't speak like that. The accent of the town he was born in and lived in until I met him isn't Jamie-esque.

Which means he has chosen to speak like a twat. Therefore I conclude he is a twat. I'm so glad he moved to the other side of the world so I am not longer faced with Jamie-clone.

That Scottish weather woman who was on Strictly - Carol Something was it? Can't bear her voice. Our vet - super-intelligent, highly qualified, lovely person, 40 years old, sounds like a seven year old. Impossible to take seriously.

There's a woman I come into very regular contact with who sounds like Frankie Howard. There is also a chap who, when he is on the phone (about 75% of his working day) punctuates his sentences with "erm", very loudly. He gets louder the more diet coke he drinks, and he gets through about a litre a day. There's also a chap who sounds needlessly aggressive every time he makes a phone call (again a good 75% of his working day). I think it's a by-product of the sort of job all three of them do - the sort of people in the industry they have to deal with probably react well to them. However, for the sort of job I do (a really quiet one, where I have to focus a lot, and not get distracted), if all three of them are in the office with me, I have to have my earphones on.

When the office first got shuffled around such that I was for the first time in contact with these characters, I have to admit I really struggled. I was having a giant rant about it in my local when a friend managed to get me to see the funny side of being in close proximity to these people, and in all honesty, it helped. Although I do have to stop myself from "Ooh Noo Missus"ing out loud if the Frankie Howard-alike gets going....

I read the thread title and immediately thought it was about singing voices. I dived straight in thinking about how much I cannot bear Jess Glynne. Her voice goes right through me - especially when she goes for the high notes, it sounds very screechy and strained. I have to turn the radio off.
