From the CDC. Particularly the "risks for any woman".

To be flabbergasted at this infographic?

Surely then you could parallel it to drink drive deaths - so it wasn't the drink that caused the accident, it was losing control of the car? Yes you'd have to have sex but it's proven people are less likely to have sex carefully if they're drunk. I know this is American guidance (and I hope the male one says similar, besides the while pregnant stuff) but it applies here too. We have a huge problem with binge drinking, people hurting themselves starting fights through to full blown alcoholism. I get that most people on this thread can handle it sensibly but does it hurt to give info for the people who can't?

Don't regret my son for a second but he was the result of too many drinks.

You mean you didn't have sex?

Ah Bluemoon I totally misread your post, I thought you said STD's not pregnancy, do excuse me Blush

Don't see the problem, that infographic is part of a womens reproductive health and antenatal campaign by the cdc, they have added on the obligatory cancer, heart disease etc. There are other ones too. This is a tiny snippet of a wider campaign.

I don't know why people are so shocked that alcohol and stds are linked, lower inhibitions = less care taken = more stds.

Bluemoonrising Your daughter can still get stds regardless of her sexuality, and if you bother to read it it says too much, not one glass of wine Hmm

I don't understand why English people are so desperate to deny how bad their precious alcohol is for them, especially during pregnancy, I adore my rum and wine etc, but it does cause all the problems listed here by the cdc, don't see the issue at all.

Amusing bollocks.

I wonder what they think about French children being offered watered down red wine, or the Italians drinking from age 14?

Does alcohol not cause liver disease in America then? Hmm

Don't have slightly more than a glass, DiscoPanda, you don't want to catch an STD!

Huh. Who would have known that a "Sex on the Beach" or a "Slow Comfortable Screw (Up Against A Wall optional)" was so fraught with danger?

The CDC is going way overboard here. No one I know is paying the slightest bit of attention to their recommendations and if anything I think they've seriously damaged their credibility.

I've been plastered out of my face many many times and I've never had unprotected sex.
People that have unprotected sex drunk tend to do it sober too.

Wow! My 19yo lesbian daughter is at risk of unwanted pregnancy if she has a glass of wine!!

Who knew??

"And come on, NO alcohol for anyone under 21? Positively draconian."

That's the law in many American states isn't it?
I do think they have a very different attitude to alcohol. I think many Americans think having a drink at lunchtime is indicative of alcoholism for example.

Pregnancy? Brilliant! I thought I was going to have to pay for IVF. A few pints of beer will be much cheaper.

The whole no alcohol for any woman who might be pg is bullshit.

Pretty much ANY woman who is of childbearing age, hasn't had a hysterectomy and is having sex might theoretically be pg. It is treating women as incubators. It is one thing to say, don't drink if you suspect you are pg, another to say any woman who might be pg should not drink.

The Americans still haven't gotten over their Puritanical roots and many of them think prohibition should still be in place.

As soon as I read it, I knew it was American.

And come on, NO alcohol for anyone under 21? Positively draconian.

Crazy I didn't think you were having a go.

CDC is a fascinating site to explore, as it takes you off in so many directions.

And yes, my first attempt to close the infographic was in the wrong 'x' too.

Has anyone else been trying to 'close' the picture by clicking the 'x' box in the top right hand corner of the picture and thinking MN has fucked up again? Blush

""Violence" suggests that you are at risk of becoming a victim of violence.""

Am I the only person whose seen a woman start a fight, whilst drunk and get beaten, in said fight, or injured because the other person has pushed her off and she's unsteady on her feet?

My DD (30) has a 33 year old female friend who has needed a knee replacement because of the damage that she's done, fighting, falling over, when drunk.

Being drunk, can make you the victim and perpetrator of violence.
