AIBU?

To think Mumsnet is being a bit heavy handed with its Lidl promoting?

Lidl vlogger, Lidl job ads, Mumsnet seems to be on a campaign to get middle england shopping there.
Personally, I go there for some things, mostly olive oil and dried fruits. However I have a couple of problems with it. The milk is not british and we all know how much our dairy farmers are struggling to sell and get a decent price for their product. Also, the meat and meat products are mostly german. A lot of German meat comes from very intensively farmed giant cow units.

Maybe MN is just promoting supermarkets that are paying the National Living Wage ? It's hardly Lidls fault they are the only one.

Lidl's low fat chocolate orange yogurt should come with a health warning it's so addictive.

I agree, Tesco isn't as good as Lidl. Nor is Asda - we drive past two branches of Asda to get to our nearest Lidl.

Tesco is shit compared with Lidl.

I have a MIL and SILs that still feel that way ^ Grin. MIL shops at Tesco, because that's a Respectable Supermarket.

Earlier this year, Lidl’s UK boss Ronny Gottschlich said the recession had helped it win the hearts of a group of price-conscious middle class shoppers it calls the "Maidstone mums", who would have considered shopping in Lidl social suicide during the years of plenty.

Classy.

LIDL is good for wine. Bit hit and miss on other products though.

I do use ad blocker. But that link to the vlog is there all the time. I'll never click on it because I know all about Lidl due to already shopping there occasionally and the eleventy billion Lidla threads we get on here in Chat and Aibut.

It's a bloody supermarket! Can't we find something more interesting to talk about or vlog about?

I never watch Vlogger.
This site is free.
Owners need to find ways to earn monry.
Lidl pays them.
I don't have to watch videos sponsored by Lidl.
I think people need to learn this one trick: Do all your shopping and watching sponsored videos in one browser. Choose let say Chrome for that.
Then open Firefox, clear all cookies, history of browsing and shortcuts and browse your social sites there. You will see dramatic difference in ads presented to you as long as you won't click on them. Remember not to log to Firefox with you google account as this will carry your profile with you.

Everyone says food costs less at Lidl/Aldi. Maybe it does. Maybe it's just me, but I can't do a FULL shop there (there's always something they're missing) so I have to go to a "proper" supermarket too (which is annoying), and I end up spending a fortune on tat-I-don't-need from the bit in the middle.

It looks like their many of their product recalls are due to labelling issues. They don't have the 'contains egg, contains wheat' warnings in English on the label.

I really like Lidl. I love their cleaning stuff, their fresh veg, the bags of nuts the jam, the mozzarella ... They do free range chicken and eggs and British meat.

Maybe I just don't visit any supermarkets websites so Google foesn't know I shop at all!

Lidl ads are definitely based on your profile as defined by Google. Mumsnet may have some other list where they get paid for allowing certain brands to advertise. Then some alghoritm works out which are relevant to you.

I don't get any supermarkets ads on Mumsnet.
